Proximate Analysis

This document summarizes a study analyzing the coal quality in Uluiwoi District, Kolaka Timur Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province using proximate analysis. The study observed coal outcrops in the area and took samples from pits up to 4 meters deep. Proximate analysis was conducted on the samples to determine moisture, ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon, and calorific values. The results found the highest quality coal based on these metrics was a sample taken at 2.5 meters depth, while the lowest quality sample came from 2.2 meters depth due to higher ash content. In conclusion, the coal in the region is classified as lignite coal suitable for alternative energy use.

INTRODUCTION
 Background
 Coal is an alternative fuel that
continues to be developed to
search its reserves including its
utilization.
 Indonesia's coal reserves even
exceed petroleum reserves.
 Coal layer outcrops are found
in Tawanga area of East Kolaka Research Location

Regency, Southeast Sulawesi - Geomorphologically : alluvial hill units, denudational

(SE), Indonesia.
steep hills, and rivers
- Stratigraphy : Metamorphic rock of Pompangeo
Formation and AlluviaUnit
- Geological structure: cesarean, fold, and stocky
 Research Purpose
To analyze the coal quality from Uluiwoi District,
Kolaka Timur Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province,
using the proximate analysis method.

 Use of research

Proximate Analysis Data for The First Coal Layer

 Sample that has the highest

calorific, fixed carbon, and
volatile matter values was
found at a depth of 2.50 m,
 Sample has the lowest
values was found at a depth
of 2.20 m. Sampel DB1-2,20
has the lowest value because
it has more clay (has ash
content of 74,20%).
CONCLUSION
Overall coal samples are classified as lignite coal
(lowest level)
They can be used as an alternative energy.
