About Hindustan Unilever Limited
Hindustan Unilever Limited operates in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry which continues to be one of
the biggest structural opportunities that country offers. It was established in 1933 and is based out of Mumbai. On any
given day, nine out of ten Indian households use their products.

The company has a variety of products in each of the categories targeted at almost all the customer segments, and is
known for innovative product offerings and adapting itself to the market changes, which has helped it maintain its
market leadership. With 44 brands spanning 14 distinct categories such as fabric solutions, home and hygiene, skincare,
hair care, colour cosmetics, oral care, deodorants, tea, coffee, ice cream & frozen desserts, and health food drinks, the
Company is a part of the everyday life of around 700 millions of consumers across India
Some of the famous brands of HUL are Dove, Lux, Lifebuoy, Pears, Rexona, Surf Excel, Wheel, Comfort, Clinic Plus, Sunsilk,
Pond’s, Lakme, Vaseline, Taj Mahal, Brooke Bond, Magnum, Close up, Pepsodent, and many more.

CSR Policy
Policy of HUL is as follows-
 HUL is committed to operate and grow its business in a socially responsible way.
 Their vision is to grow their business whilst reducing the environmental impact of its
operations and increasing the positive social impact.
 This policy outlines HUL’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda. Their aim is to achieve
responsible growth and by encouraging people to take small everyday actions that will add
up to make a big difference.
 HUL has identified water as a key area of intervention. They focus in this area by creating
capacities in conserving water through significant investments in partnership with relevant
stakeholders with the objective of water conservation.
 They work according to Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) which has 3 global goals-
1. help more than a billion people take action to improve their health and wellbeing,
2. reduce the environmental footprint of its products
3. enhance the livelihoods of people as they grow their business.
Philosophy And Objectives Of CSR Policy
The CSR Policy of the Company which is approved by the CSR Committee and Board
of Directors (Board), outlines a clear agenda through which there will be
continuous contribution to the communities directly. The objective of this policy
set the direction for the CSR activities of the Company and defines the governance
and monitoring framework for ensuring the effectiveness of the policy.
The Unilever Compass, is a sustainable business strategy, which is set to help
deliver superior performance by being a purpose-led, future-fit business. Within
this, there is a comprehensive and ambitious set of commitments and actions to:
• Improve the health of the planet;
• Improve people’s health, confidence and wellbeing; and
• Contribute to a fairer, more socially inclusive world.

Important Projects Of CSR
A. Project Shakti
It aims to financially empower and provide livelihood opportunities to women
in rural India. The Shakti Entrepreneurs are given training for familiarization
with your Company’s products and basic tenets of distribution management,
Project Shakti has nearly 1,20,000 Shakti Entrepreneurs whom we call ‘Shakti
Ammas’. This programme has helped Shakti Entrepreneurs gain selling skills,
become self-confident, improve their self-esteem and learn communication
skills.

B. Swachh Aadat Swachh Bharat


It is in line with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission)
to promote good health and hygiene practices. In 2019, the programme continued to
promote good health and hygiene practices by stressing the need to adopt three clean
habits (‘Swachh Aadat’) of washing hands five times a day, using a toilet for defecation
and adopting safe drinking water practices. A part of SASB, Swachhata Doot (Messenger
of Cleanliness) is a volunteering programme that enables any person to become a
change agent in his / her community
C. Asha Daan
Asha Daan is a home in Mumbai for abandoned and
differently-abled children, HIV-positive patients and
destitute people. Since the inception of Asha Daan
in 1976, Company has been looking after the
maintenance and upkeep of the premises. At any
time, there are about over 400 inmates at Asha
Daan.

D. Rin Shine Academy


Rin Shine Academy (erstwhile Rin Career Ready
Academy), aims to provide career readiness
skills to the youth in India. It focuses on three
simple but valuable skills which are English
Speaking, Office Dressing and Interview
Training
Covid Relief Work
 The Company was one of the first corporates to commit 100
crores towards societal work to complement Government’s
work on dealing with COVID-19.
In partnership with United Nations Development Programme
they are distributing sanitation and hygiene products to
Sanitation Workers across 15 cities in India including
Mumbai.
The Company is supporting Government hospitals to
upgrade medical infrastructures in hospital by providing
them with medical equipments and Personal Protection
Equipment (PPE), in collaboration with public health
authorities, near factories and offices.
Through Project Prabhat, company’s sustainable community
development initiative, they are supporting 1,00,000 migrant
labour families by donating food kits and essential hygiene
products.
