 WHAT IS INTERNET?
The internet is whole networks sharing
information with each other some people call it information
superhighway.

protocol(I.P) .

 1 to 255 number
 Separated by DOT
THE DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM
 Converts IP to domain name.
 Domain name-English like names that corresponds to the IP
address. e.g.- www.microsoft.com
 The most common domain extension currently available
are .com ,.edu,.gov,.mil,.net,.org,.biz,.info,
 Countries also have domain name such as.uk,.au,.fr.
WORLD WIDE WEB(W.W.W)
 The most popular Internet service.
 It is system with universally accepted standards for
storing ,retrying ,formatting and displaying information using
a client/server architecture.
WEB SERVERS
 A web server is a software for locating and managing
stored WebPages.
 The most common web server in use today is APACHE
HTTP SERVER which control 70% of the market.
 Microsoft product internet information service(I.I.S) is
control 21%of market.
HYPERTEXT
 Web pages based on a standard Hypertext Markup
Language (HTML)
 Web browsers request web pages stored on an Internet host
server using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
 The address of a web page is its Uniform Resource Locator
(URL)

 There are hundred's of different search engines in the world.

 The network of internet began to grow in 1991,it has about
10 severs. In Jan 2004 it has about 46million. In Jan 2007 it is
estimated 1 billion users with web site in 34 languages.
 Internet users are in more than 200 countries, in 2010 it is
projected to 2 billion user mark.
 The net does not have a central computer center, there are
13servers called ROOT SERVER.
 Internet does not have headquarter or government body.
INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER
 No one really owns internet.
 An internet service provider is a company that provide access
to the internet to individual and organization for a monthly
fees.
 also serve large company provide direct connection from
company network to internet.

 The most popular internet application are E-mail, instant message
browsing the site on www and participating in newsgroups &
chartrooms. Other are below.

 Intranet is a network inside an organization that use internet


technologies.
 Extranet are network links that use internet technologies to
inter connect the internet of a business with the intranets of its
customers, suppliers, or other business partners.

 The Internet was created in the 1960's by the United States


defense organization.
 In 1990, Tim Berners-Lee coined the term 'World Wide Web'.
 The very first hard drive was capable of storing only 5 MB of
data.
 On an average, a person spends about 51 minutes per session
surfing the net.
 This works out to about 25 hours a month surfing the Internet.
 Average view time for a webpage is about 45 seconds.
 Almost 80% of pictures on the Internet are of naked women.
Internet censorship is a losing battle that many regulators are facing.

 One of the biggest achievements of the Internet is how fast it has
actually grown. The power that this tool gives us is unlimited, and we
have become information super-highways. The Internet achieved 50
million users in 5 years. It took the radio 38 years, and it took the TV 13
years to reach the same figure.
 Despite the high number of users, 80% of the world's population
does not use the Internet.
 There is an Internet crime committed around the world every 10
seconds.
 Every year, about 2 million TB of data is created and stored.
 About 70% of Internet users are men.
 Total number of Internet users around the world is 2 billion
