Cubicle/Module Coding – Why ?

 During the engineering process the unique location of the modules are
defined and stored in the project files.
 When the application files are downloaded to the MControl, location
information and MLink ID’s are stored, and when the MControl starts
the ”Location Supervision” becomes active.
 The Location Supervision function can not be disabled, and will
always ensure that the correct MControl in inserted in the correct
position to control the correct MStart.

 Stored MControl information can only be changed by a new

application download.
 A newly delivered MControl will remain in ”Location Trip” until
firmware is downloaded for the first time.

Cubicle Coding
+24 VDC 0V
 MLink = max. 60 MControl in max. 7 cubicles.
Coding
 Cubicles must be coded with a cubicle number
between 1 and 7 to give it a unique number within
the same MLink group.
 Cubicle coding is done by coding of the vertical
control voltage distribution bars to which all the
MControls in the cubicle are connected.
 A live bar (+24VDC) is detected as a logical ”1”.
 Bars which should be coded with logical ”0” must
be connected to 0 V.
 Voltage for the coding is taken from the terminal
blocks located in the top of the control cable
compartment.
 When distribution bar B is live the value ”1” is
added to the cubicle number.
 When distribution bar C is live the value ”2” is
added to the cubicle number. Control voltage

distribution bars
 When distribution bar D is live the value ”4” is
added to the cubicle number.

Location Coding

 In addition to the cubicle number, each module also requires a location

coding to identify its vertical level/position in the cubicle.
 The vertical position is coded as a decimal value by using the two BCD
rotary switches located on the control condaptor, where the leftmost switch
represents the 10’s and the rightmost the 1’s.
 The code to be inserted is the upper left corner of the MStart modules,
starting from the top of the equipment compartment and divided into grids
sized 2E downwards.
 Total height of the equipment compartment is 72E.
 Split into 2E grids the possible coding range will then be from position 1 the
upper module to position 36 if you have a 2E module located in the bottom
of the equipment compartment.
 When the vertical position of the upper left corner of the MStart is defined,
the horizontal position of the modules within the same control condaptor is

defined by the type of condaptor used.

MStart Supervision

 When the coding is done correctly and the correct MControl is running in
the correct position, the MStart Supervision function will supervise the
communication between the MControl and the MStart.
 This function will also check that the ident-number stored in the MStart
module is the same as the ident-number configured, to ensure that the
correct power module is inserted in the correct position.
