Digital Signal Processing TS

This document discusses digital signal processing. It defines analog and digital signals and explains that digital signal processing analyzes and modifies digitized signals. It describes filters, analog to digital converters which sample, quantize and encode analog signals, and digital signal processors which mathematically manipulate digitized signals. Digital to analog converters are also discussed as converting digital signals back to analog. Key applications are in communication, medical, commercial and military fields due to advantages like noise resistance, easy storage and transmission for digital signals.

Analog Signal Digital Signal

Digital Signal Processing
Digital signal processing is the process of analyzing and modifying a
signal to perform a wide variety of signal processing operations.
Filters:
1.Anti-aliasing filter:
It is a low pass filter.
It attenuates higher frequencies and prevents aliasing
components
from being sampled.

2.Reconstruction filter:
Reconstruction filter is used is used to construct a smooth
analog   signal from DAC.
Ex: Min-Max filter, Gaussian filter.
Analog to Digital Converter(ADC)
1.Sampler:
•  Converts continuous signal into a discrete time signal.
•  To preserve the full information in the signal, it is necessary to sample at twice the maximum
frequency of the signal. This is known as the Nyquist rate.

2.Hold: Holds the sample value until the next sample is taken.

3.Quantize:
• Converts continuous amplitude to discrete amplitude signal.

Quantization

4.Encoder:
Encoder converts the quantized signals into a digital representation(bits).
Digital Signal processor:
• Digital Signal Processors (DSP) take real-world signals like voice, audio, video,
temperature, pressure, or position that have been digitized and then mathematically
manipulate them.
• DSP's can be programed.
Digital to Analog Converter(DAC):

◉ Converts a digital input signal into an analog output signal.

◉ The accuracy depends upon  the number of bits.
WHY WE USE DIGITAL SIGNAL?

◉ LESS SUSCEPTIBLE TO NOISE

◉ EASY TO PROCESS IN DIGITAL DOMAIN
DIGITAL
◉ STORAGABLE
SIGNAL
◉ CAN BE MODULATED,ENCODED,TRANSMITTED
EASILY
◉ CAN BE ENCRYPTED

◉ MORESUSCEPTIBLE TO NOISE
ANALOG ◉ DIFFICULT TO PROCESS IN DIGITAL DOMAIN
SIGNAL ◉ CANNOT BE STORED.

APPLICATIONS

Commercial Military
Conclusion:

◉ DSP technology has enabled many applications.

◉ The main areas of this technology would be the cell phones
which play a key role in today’s voice communication.
◉ DSP's are very fast and optimal for real time processing.
◉ The DSPs play an important role in the next generation
communication.
