●Calligraphy involves
essentially the techniques as
traditional painting. Brush is
dipped in black or colored ink.
Oils are not used. Paper and
silk are used as well.

method of printing on
textiles , then eventually
on paper.
● It is strongly associated
with Buddhism, which
encouraged the spread of
charms and sutras.

● The method was adapted in Japan
during the Edo periods (1603-1867)
and became one of the oldest and
most highly developed visual arts,
● The most common theme in Japan
describes scenes from everyday life
and the most well-known theme is
Ukiyo-e (picture of the floating world)

● In Korea, the majority of
books printed are
woodblock prints.
● An example of woodblock
printing on paper is The
Great Dharani Sutra dated
between 704-751 AD.

MATERIALS : Potato cut in half, spoon, paper clip, watercolor/poster color, tissue
paper, barbecue stick
PROCEDURE:
1. Trace the design on the surface of the potato using barbecue stick.
2. Using the spoon, carve out the surface that has to be blank,
3. Dry and clean the area to prepare for printing.
4. Apply paint to the carved surface then press it to your paper. Remember to do test
prints
5. Repeat the method to make a composition. You may use other colors but always
remember to clean the surface of the potato before using other colors.
6. Let your work dry completely.
