ANGELS IN ISLAM

Made by: Sobia Ali (20201-28924)

WHO ARE ANGELS?

 Angels (‫مالئكة‬ malāʾikah; singular: ‫مالك‬ malāk)

 In Islam, Muslims believe in the existence of all of the creatures that Allah SWT

has created, which other than mankind includes angels, or malaikah.
WHY WERE ANGELS CREATED?

 Angels were created before mankind.

 They cannot deviate from obeying Allah SWT command, therefore they do not
have a free will & they are free of sin.

 According to Islamic belief, the angels constantly praise God & in Quran, it is
mentioned:
“They exalt him night & day & do not slacken” [Qur’an 21:20]
RELATIONSHIP OF ANGELS WITH HUMANS

 From the moment we are born, The relationship between a human and an angel is
established, When we are in the womb of our mother an angel comes and blows life into
us by the command of Allah SWT at 120th day and then the angel asks Oh, my Lord,
what are his deeds? Oh, my Lord, what is his date of death? And Oh, my Lord, is he
amongst the blessed or the wretched?

 The relationship between angels and humans is so deep that two angels are assigned for
lifetime to record the good and bad deeds and decisions of every human being every
day and hour.

 Beyond communicating divine messages to humans, angels take on a variety

of other assignments and they are protecting people: Al Ra’d 13:11 of the
Qur’an declares: “For each person, there are angels in succession, before and behind
him. They guard him by the Command of Allah. "
DESCRIPTION OF ANGELS

 Angels are immortal, are made of light & have wings.

 Angels can be of different size, status or merit.

 They cannot be described as male or female, as such an attribute is not assigned

them.
ANGEL’S APPEARANCE

 Angels are not visible to mankind.

 However the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was able to see the angel Jibreel AS.

 The Qur'an says that we should not be concerned with how the angels appear.

 However in one hadith the Prophet SAW said,  “I have been given permission to
speak about one of the angels of God who carry the Throne. The distance
between his ear-lobes and his shoulders is equivalent to a seven-hundred-year
journey,”
(Abu Dawud).
THE NUMBER OF ANGELS

 The number of Angels is unknown to anyone but Allah the All-Mighty & Only
Allah knows all the details & roles of all the angels:
“And none know the hosts of your Lord except He” [Qur’an 74:31]

 There is no clear information about the number of angels in the Qur’an and
hadiths. However, it is possible for us to say that they are far more than we can
count based upon hadiths.

 Moreover, according to the news given by the prophet Muhammad (PBUH); an

angel comes to the earth with a drop of rain and its turn does not come again.
ROLE OF ANGELS

 Angels have many and varied responsibilities assigned to them by Allah. Some of

the tasks we know Angels preside over are: to blow life into the fetus, to guard
paradise, to carry the throne of Allah SWT, to worship Allah, to seek out venues of
remembrances (dhikr) such as halakah and salah, etc.
 Additionally, we learn from Qur'an and hadith that Angels were also tasked with
protecting & guarding the Prophet Muhammad SAW. These responsibilities
mentioned are only a few of the assignments for angels that we know of.
 The angels can possess great powers given to them by Allah SWT.  For example,
they can take on different forms. In Qur'an, Allah describes how He sent the angel
Jibreel A.S in the form of a man at the moment of Isa’s A.S conception:
“Then We sent to her [Maryam] Our angel, and he appeared before her as a
man in all respects,” .

Allah. Among those mentioned are:
