Report On Structural System: Building Construction 1751 - Aparna Pardhi

The document summarizes the structural system of a building including: 1. Frame structures which use beams, columns, and slabs to resist loads and can be made of steel, concrete, or wood. 2. Rigid and braced frame systems depending on whether the joints are fixed or pinned and use bracing for lateral support. 3. Common building materials like reinforced concrete and steel which are durable and can resist seismic forces.

1.Structural System
Frame Structure
A Frame structure is a structure having the combination of beam, column and slab to resist the
lateral and gravity loads. These structures are usually used to overcome the large moments
developing due to the applied loading.

There are basic three frames depending on material used in

construction:
•Steel Frame
•Concrete Frame
•Wooden Frame
What are the Types of Frame Structures?

a. Rigid Frame System

Rigid frame system consists of linear element like
beams and columns. The word rigid means ability
to resist the deformation. It is used in steel and
reinforced concrete buildings.
Rigid frame structure is classified into two main
types: Home Issurance Building,
Chicago, USA
• Fix Ended Rigid Frame Structure
• Pin Ended Rigid Frame Structure
b. Braced Frame System

Braced frames are composed of beams and columns Portal Frame Steel Structure
that are “pin” connected with bracing to resist lateral
loads. This type of frame simple to analyze and
simple to construct. The resistance to lateral forces in
obtained through both horizontal and vertical
bracing.
Braced frame structure is classified into two main
types:
• Gabled Frames
• Portal Frames

2. Materials
Structural Systems

1. Reinforced Cement Concrete(RCC)

Properties
• In RCC framed structure building the floor area is normally
10% to 12% greeter compared to a load bearing walls building.
Hence, this type of building is preferably economical where
the value of land is very high.
• Normal earthquake effects can be resisted by providing
required further design.
• Faster Construction work.
• Maintenance cost is also minimum which ca be ignored.

2. Steel

• They are flexible, which makes them very good at

resisting dynamic (changing) forces such as wind
or earthquake forces.
• A wide range of ready-made structural
sections are available, such as I, C, and angle
sections
• They can be made to take any kind of shape, and
clad with any type of material
• A wide range of joining methods is available, such
as bolting, welding, and riveting

Building Envelope

1. Wall
ACC Block
• Eco-Friendly and Sustainable.
• Lightweight.
• Thermally Insulated & Energy Efficient.
• Fire Resistant.
• Acoustic Performance.
• Easy Workability and Design Flexibility.
• Seismic Resistant.
• Faster Construction.
Precast Concrete Wall

•Thermal Resistance.
•Moisture Protection.
•Fire Safety.
•Acoustics.
•Durability.
•Maintainability.
2.Roof
• RCC
• It should have sufficient compressive strength.
• It should have Adequate tensile strength.
• High Fire and weather resistance.
• It should be a Durability material.
• Economy to molded any shape.
• Low maintenance cost.
• The economy as a construction material.
Beam- Slab Junction
• Insulator Roofing Sheet

Material:
Galvanised or Galvalume.
• Thickness: 6MM Polyethylene(PE) Foam With Aluminium Foil.
• Thickness Of Sheet: 0.40mm to 0.80MM.
• Insulation: Polyethylene(PE) Foam With Aluminium Foil.
Properties:
• Reducing direct heat transfer through the roof of your patio
• Minimizing noise from wind, rain and hail
• Better performance and protection in cyclones
• More space for relaxing and entertaining thanks to larger panel sizes
that eliminate the need for numerous support beams.
• Stylish, clean white ceiling finish that looks great rather than a plain
steel finish underneath
3. Fenestrations
• Aluminium
• Steel
• Wood
3. Services Sustainable Options

a. Solar Panel
Solar energy is naturally more sustainable than fossil
fuel energy sources and is more environmentally
sustainable. It converts the sun’s energy into electrical
energy and makes use of the greatest, most sustainable
resource on the planet, sunlight.
The cleanest energy that we can harness is solar energy,
and its adoption will reduce the impact that we have
made towards driving climate change. The greenhouse
effect and global warming are two of the biggest
environmental concerns that our children and we will
face.  Solar energy is also much safer for humans and
the environment since it is a lot easier to make and
transport.
b. Green Roof
• Green roofs also contribute to the sustainability of
a building. A green roof significantly reduces the
need for air conditioning in summer and provides
insulation in the winter. The insulation in the
winter will depend on the amount of moisture in
the various layers. Insulation in the summer is the
greatest, because the layers are dry and therefore
reflect the heat effectively. Due to the reduced
need for air conditioning in the summer and less
heating in the winter, a green roof significantly
reduces energy consumption.
Green Roof
• A green roof also extends the life span of your roof,
because it shields the roofing material from the harmful
influence of sun, wind and rain. Research has shown that
roof surfaces last two to three times longer if a green roof
is installed. What's more, the roof has a water buffering
function, because it holds the excess water from heavy
rainfall and releases this gradually to the sewage system.
This prevents flooding and ensures a lower ambient
temperature through evaporation. In addition, a green roof
provides scope for biodiversity to develop. There are
shelters and nesting sites for birds, bees, butterflies and
other insects.
