Study On Human Resource Practices and Policies: at Shine Projects

This document summarizes a study on human resource practices and policies at Shine Projects. The study aimed to understand employee satisfaction, evaluate performance management processes, compensation, and work environment. Survey results found that less than half of employees felt included in their team or received clear communication. Performance management was deemed ineffective by many. While most felt rewarded for good work, fewer felt they received adequate resources, feedback, or had goals set by managers. Overall, the working environment and work-life balance needed improvement to increase retention. Recommendations included better development programs, improved communication, clear targets, and recognition to enhance the employee experience.

Study on Human

Resource Practices
and Policies
at
Shine Projects
INTRODUCTION

• Human resource is the division of a business that is charged with finding, screening, recruiting, and training
job applicants, as well as administrating employee-benefit programs. Human resource department is the
emerging sector in the new era of the corporate world. Earlier, human resource management was ignored by
the organisations but today most of the organisations are focusing on HRM practices. It is important to
maintain the human resources in every organisation (whether it is service industry, trading industry,
production industry or any other type of industry) to gain long term success in the business.
• It was only in the late 20th century that the corporations began viewing employees as assets when there
where advances in transportation and communications which had greatly facilitated workforce mobility and
collaboration. “Human resource management” consequently became the dominant term for the function.
Now human resource is one of the most important asset of an organisation.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

• Human Resource Department was hesitant in sharing information as it was

sensitive and could not be shared with anyone.
• People had limited time to provide information because of their huge routine
work and were not very interested in participating.
• Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tool used for data collection was only online
questionnaires and I could not ask follow-up questions.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Out of 50 respondents, 24 people felt they were a part of a team, 12 people were neutral in this aspect and 14 people did not felt
like they were a part of a team. 22 people felt their manager communicated with them clearly about changes in the company, 14
people did not have a say in this and 14 people felt they were not clearly communicated by their manager. 15 people felt they
were given fair work and deadlines by their manager, 19 people were neutral in this regard and 16 people felt they were not given
reasonable work and fair deadlines by their manager.
Interpretation: From the above data, it can be interpreted that not more than 50% of the people are satisfied with their manager
in respect of the above mentioned qualities a manager should have i.e., inclusivity and delegation of work.
• Out of 50 respondents, only 13 people felt the overall improvement from their company’s performance
management process was effective, 13 people felt it was only moderately effective, 14 people felt it was
ineffective and 13 people felt they did not know is it was effective or not.
• Interpretation: From the above data it can be interpreted that, not a lot of people believe that their
company’s performance is overall improving with the current performance management practices. The
employees should be involved in the setting up of these practices so their suggestions can be taken into
account.
• From the above data, it can be
interpreted that, more than 50%
employees feel they get rewarded if
they perform a task well; barely 50%
people think they get what they need to
do their job; less than 50% people think
they do not adequate feedback and their
mangers do not set their performance
goals; most of the people believe that
they handle criticism at work well.
Thus, organisation should give people
adequate resources for their job and
provide them with feedback regularly
and their goals should be set by their
managers.
• From the above data it can be interpreted
that, barely 50% people think the business
ethics of their organisation are good; less
than 50% people believe that their working
conditions and working environment is
good and only 50% people think that they
have a good work-life balance. These
numbers show that most of the employees
do not have a favourable working
environment thus, this will lead to less
employee retention and the organisation
will have to repeatedly hire new
employees.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
• Recommendation
• Better development programs should be curated for the employees.
• A good communication channel should be built especially for the work from home interns because a lot of companies ask the
interns to only drop a WhatsApp message to the concerned senior and it consumes a lot of intern’s time to wait for a simple
instruction. More meetings should be scheduled with the interns in a regular basis to check up on them and clear their doubts, if
any.
• Proper targets should be given. Recognition and rewards should be given as the targets are met to every intern.

• Conclusion
• In a nutshell, this internship has been a great experience. I got to learn a lot of technical aspects of the work, working from
home is not as flawless as people thought it would be and a lot aspects could be improved like better communication. Doing
this internship helped me realise how important it is to include HR department in making and planning the practices and
policies for providing a better work place environment and keeping the employees satisfied. If HR department is involved in
making the policies of the organisation regarding the employees’ satisfaction and other related matters the organisation can
actually retain a lot of good employees. It is also important for the HR department to align its objectives and strategies with the
objectives of the organisation as a whole.
