EPAM Private Cloud: Integration With AWS

This document discusses integrating EPAM's private cloud (EPC) with Amazon Web Services (AWS). It provides an overview of cloud computing models and service models. It then outlines a roadmap for AWS usage based on tasks and skills. It demonstrates how to run a virtual machine in AWS using the Maestro CLI similarly to how VMs are run in EPC. It also shows how resources can be monitored and managed across platforms. Support resources like documentation, training, and FAQ are listed.

PUBLIC 2
THE NIST DEFINITION OF CLOUD COMPUTING

•On-demand self-service
•Broad network access
1 ESSENTIAL •Location independent resource pooling
CHARACTERISTICS •Rapid elasticity
•Measured service with pay per use

•Private Cloud
DEPLOYMENT •Community Cloud
2 MODELS •Public Cloud
•Hybrid Cloud

•Software as a Service
3 SERVICE MODELS •Platform as a Service
•Infrastructure as a Service

PUBLIC 3
AWS USAGE ROADMAP

Integration with AWS includes multiple facilities and ways of application. The selection of the necessary
tool depends on your needs and skills. Below, you can see a roadmap on AWS usage, based on possible
tasks.

PUBLIC 4
CLOUD MANAGEMENT CONSOLE

• Mobile layout
• Running VMs
• Running Stacks
• Monitoring AWS instances
• Events Audit
• Billing Reports
• Documentation

PUBLIC 5
AWS EVENTS AUDIT

All the events on your EPC and AWS based infrastructures are reflected in real-time mode on the Audit page.

PUBLIC 6
RESOURCE INFORMATION

On Management page, you can see the basic instance information: related project and zone, instance ID,
shape, state, IP’s and DNS’s, and the latest events:

PUBLIC 7
RESOURCE PERFORMANCE MONITORING

The detailed information on VM performance, retrieved due to integration with Amazon Cloud Watch and is
available on Monitoring page.
The default available data are: CPU utilization, Disk Read/Write information, Network Traffic, Status
Check.

PUBLIC 8
BILLING AND REPORTING

AWS-based resources are billed according to AWS pricing Policy.

Orchestrator gathers the Amazon costs and list them in unified billing reports, accessible on Cloud
Management Console and Maestro CLI.

PUBLIC 9
AWS MANAGEMENT CONSOLE

To get quick temporary access to the Console, run in Maestro CLI:

or2-aws-management-console

FUNCTIONALITY SUMMARY

EPAM ORCHESTRATOR AMAZON WEB SERVICES

• Basic functionality + EPC Services • All AWS possibilities

• Multi-platform monitoring • No access to EPC info

• EO access is granted automatically • Access to AWS needs special procedures
• Quotas: expenses control • No control over project costs
• Audit: tracks all manipulations on • No quick access to events tracking
infrastructure
• Easily accessed current billing info • Billing info at the end of the month
• Both Maestro and CloudFormation stacks
• Only CloudFormation stacks are available
can be used
• Mobile Web Console for monitoring and
• Mobile Web Console for creation,
manipulations on existing resources only
monitoring and manipulations

PUBLIC 12
MANIPULATING AWS-BASED RESOURCES

Manipulating resources in EPC and AWS regions is similar and differs only by region name parameter:

• Run a VM in EPC regions:

or2run –p project –r EPAM-region –s shape -i image

• Run a VM in AWS regions:

or2run –p project –r AWS-region –s shape -i image

PUBLIC 13
INSTANCE PARAMTERS

To run an instance in Cloud, you have to decide on the two main parameters:

SHAPE IMAGE
RUN A VM
(CPU+RAM) (OS+HDD)

PUBLIC 14
IMAGE AND SHAPES UNIFICATION

EPAM Orchestration uses different types of images and shapes to run instances in EPC and in AWS.
However, all the images and shapes available for AWS are functional ‘twins’ of EPC public images and
shapes.
