MQTT Based Aquaponics System For Water Assessment PH Sensor: Presented by

This document describes an MQTT-based aquaponics system for monitoring water pH levels using a sensor. [1] The system uses an Arduino microcontroller connected to a pH sensor and temperature sensor to monitor the pH and temperature of the water. [2] If the pH is out of the desired range of 6-7, a peristaltic pump will automatically turn on to adjust the pH level. [3] The system aims to maintain a continuously healthy water supply for aquaponics.

ARDUINO BOARD
 The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on ATmega328.
 It consists of 14 digital I/O pins on which 6 Analog input pins ,
6 PWM outputs.
 It can be connected with a USB cable or power
jack to a computer.
Features
• Operating voltage : 5v
• Input voltage(recommended) : 7-12v
• SRAM : 2 KB (Atmega328)
• EEPROM : 1 KB (Atmega328)
• Clock speed : 16 MHz

MICRO CONTROLLER
The Atmega328 is a single chip micro controller created by Atmel in the mega AVR family
Specifications:
 Operating voltage - 5v
 Input voltage - 7 to 12v
 Digital i/o pins - 14
 Analog pins -6
 Flash memory - 32KB
 Clock speed - 16MHz
 SRAM - 2KB
 EEPROM - 1KB Fig 3:ATmega328 microcontroller
 Crystal oscillator - 16 MHz
 DC current for i/o pins – 40 to 50 mA

SPECIFICATIONS OF pH SENSOR(SEN 0161)

Table 1: Specifications of pH sensor (SEN0161)

pH SENSOR WORK
 With the glass electrode, a glass
membrane is fused on as a pH sensor.
The membrane is filled with a buffer
solution of known pH(typically pH=7).
 The difference in H+ ions creates a
potential that is read versus the stable
potential of the reference electrode.
 The porosity of glass membrane
decreases with the continuous use that
decreases the performance of the probe.
pH SCALE
LCD-LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY
 This is a 2*16 line LCD display.
 These are used in electronic meters for
displaying numerical information.

FEATURES:
• Operating voltage - 5v
• Back light colour - green Fig 5: LCD Pin
• Horizontal characters - 16
• Vertical characters -2
• Interface bit MPU - 4 bit&8 bit MP
TEMPERATURE SENSOR(ds18b20)

 The DS18B20 is one type of temperature

sensor and it supplies 9-bit to 12-bit
readings of temperature.
 These values show the temperature of a
particular device.
 The communication of this sensor can be
done through a one-wire bus protocol which
uses one data line to communicate with an
inner microprocessor.

IoT MODULE(ESP8266)
 The ESP8266 is a system on a chip (SOC) Wi-Fi
microchip for Internet of Things (IoT) applications
produced by Espressif Systems.
 Given its low cost, small size and adaptability with
embedded devices, the ESP8266 is now used
extensively across IoT devices.
 Although it’s now been succeeded by the newer
generation ESP32 microcontroller chip, the ESP8266
is still a popular choice for IoT developers and
manufacturers.

ADVANTAGES

 Used in Water monitoring system

 Efficient, sustainable and highly productive.
APPLICATIONS

 Maintain a continuously healthy water supply with an IoT water

quality monitoring system.
 Detect and fix wasteful leaks.
 The amount of chemicals to be added into water.
CONCLUSION

 A low cost aquaponics system using Arduino microcontroller is successfully

designed. The program of Arduino IDE is developed to monitor and control the
water parameters. The system developed is capable of detecting pH value,
water temperature. The aquaponics system using Arduino microcontroller has
been successfully developed to monitor the water parameters and control the
whole system.
