This is a sad and painful story. But


it tells us what the true love is.

The novel consists of two parts.
The first part told us about young love and took place in 1945.
The second part is 50 years later.

Beth Jones: Megan's daughter.
Part 1 Philip Jones: Beth's husband.
Paul: Megan's fiance.
Huw Thomas: a sixteen-year-old coal miner.
Mike: Huw's son.
Gareth Thomas: Huw's brother.
Rebecca: Mike's wife.
David Thomas: Huw's father.
Megan Jenkins: a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl.
Harry Jenkins: Megan's father.
In the small village of Tredonald in
Wales life was not as spectacular as it
could be. Almost all men were coal
miners and all women were
housewives.
This was the same as with Thomas
family.
Megan was a very intelligent and
beautiful girl.
She and Huw fell in love with
each other. The only big problem
was her father.
Huw asked Megan if she wanted
to be his girl, Megan said yes, but
they mustn’t told it anyone. They
were happy to be in love, but in
secret.
Days passed by, each day the same as
the one before. Megan and Huw
spent as much time as possible
together, taking long walks in the
evenings or sometimes going to the
Saturday night dances in the village.

Once Huw invited Megan to the


cinema, a warm place to stay
together, after that, he gave her a
present: a silver necklace. Suddenly
they heard a loud noise from the
mine…
His brother Gareth died.
His demise was difficult for
Huw. Huw felt alone
without Gareth, because A few weeks later Huw’s father
they loved each other so decided to leave Tredonald and go to
much, they worked very Canada, where they could leave
hard together to overcome their past behind them.
the problems. Saying goodbye was very difficult for
Huw and Megan…
The story then jumped to fifty years later.

Megan and Beth, her daughter, looked through some boxes which
belonged to Megan’s parents. As it turns Megan was expecting a baby
from Huw then.
Before leaving Tredonald, Huw told Megan : "in a year I'll come back
here and we'll get married..."; but things turned out to be completely
different. Because they did their lives separately, and Huw didn’t come
back for Megan, because he didn’t received any letter, and he thought
that she’ll forget him.

Megan felt that her love for Huw was


still as great as 50 years ago. Huw
travelled to Tredonald and with
Megan had a lovely time. He found
out about his daughter.
Megan was getting married with Paul,but when Huw came back
everything had changed. When Huw knew about it he decided not to
disturb her to be happy and was going to come back to Canada. The next
day at the airport she stopped him and said: “Ask me to marry you
again” …..
They were both crying. They cried because of
the years they had lost are years they would
never get back. But they also cried because
they were happy. They still had time: they
had tomorrow and the next day and the
next ... They had a second chance of a
wonderful future together and this time
nothing would go wrong.

They lived happily ever after…

7) compession-a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for the suffering or bad
luck of others a wish to help them.
8) fault- feeling after you have done something wrong;
9) Reach out- to try to communicate with a person or group of people usually in
order to help;
10) Demise- the death of person;
11) Avid- extremely eager and interested
