Time is on your side! The most significant saying, you are the only one who can waste your time!

Assess Your Time Management

Today many people, particularly students, are attempting to function in a


society that stresses the concept “24/7”.
Take the time to perform the three self-assessment tools:

• Assessment of Inconsistencies between Values and Behavior


• Personal time / Activity journal
• Self-Assessment of Barriers to Productivity
Assessment of Inconsistencies Between
Values and Behavior
• Values – are enduring beliefs or attitude about the worth of a person,
object, idea, or action

• Value system – organized set of values that is internalized by a


person

• Values clarification – is a complex process in which you identify,


examine, and develop your own individual values

Maximize Your Productivity
To maximize productivity, you need to manage
your attitudes and behaviors to use time in a
constructive manner to achieve your goals

Identify Goals
A goal is an object or aim you want to attain. Goals can be long term,
intermediate, or short term.
Intermediate goals: are related to
aims you want to achieve within 1
Long-term-goals: are to 5 years
generally address desired
outcomes 5 or more years
in the future Short-term-goals: address desired
results that take hours, days,
weeks, or months to attain
When setting goals, remember that they must
contain certain elements to be effective -test-

• Specific – identifies precisely what is to be attained-not same care for


diabetes patient-
• Measureable – set a minimum satisfactory level of performance
• Realistic – has a reasonable chance of being attained
• Time frame – states the length of time it will take to attain the goal

• NNADA look for this word –test-

• Tissue breaking down.


Set Priorities

The process of identifying the preferential order of doing something

• Pressing/Important Task
• Not Pressing/Important Task
• Pressing/Not Important Task-
• Not Pressing/Not Important Tasks
Get Organized

There are may ways to manage time, but a simple, concrete method
is the use of calendars –test-

Develop Self-Discipline
Start by setting goals and priorities

If you are to be successful and graduate from nursing school, school


MUST be a priority!!!

Self-discipline is orderly conduct in relation to self imposed constraints.


Self-discipline is an internal factor that is influenced only by what you
bring to a situation
Saying “NO

• Is this consistent with my goal?


• Is this something I must do?
• Is this something I want to do?
• Is there anyone else who can do this task?
Avoiding Time Traps

Interruptions that interfere with your ability to use your time


productively

• Manage waiting time

• Avoid wasting time

• Manage your own emotions
