INTRODUCTION
RATIONALE OF THE RESEARCH (DIFFER OR SILENT)
The rationale for one's research is the justification for undertaking a
given study. It states the reason(s) why a researcher chooses to focus on the
topic in question, including what the significance is and what gaps the
research intends to fill.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
Research objectives describe concisely what the
research is trying to achieve. They summarize the
accomplishments a researcher wishes to achieve
through the project and provide direction to the study.
Assumptions
Assumptions are those things we take for granted in the
study: statements by the researcher that certain elements of
the research are understood to be true. While assumed, they
should still be explicitly stated in the body of the thesis or
dissertation, usually in chapter 1.
Example: People might make the assumption that you're a
nerd if you wear glasses, even though that's not true. Or very
nice.
HYPOTHESIS
Is to find the answer to a hypothetical objective.
"Students who eat breakfast will perform better on a math
exam than students who do not eat breakfast." "Students who
experience test anxiety prior to an English exam will get higher
scores than students who do not experience test anxiety."Sep 8,
2020.
What makes a good hypothesis? It must have a solid question,
you have a background of what you are researching, and make
sure it is testable and has dependent and independent variables.
SAMPLE OF DEPENDENT AND INDEPENDENT VARIABLES.
The independent variable is the cause. Its value is independent of
other variables in your study.
EX: Your independent variable is the temperature of the room. You
vary the room temperature by making it cooler for half the
participants, and warmer for the other half.
The dependent variable is the effect. Its value depends on changes in
the independent variable.
EX: Your dependent variable is math test scores. You measure the
math skills of all participants using a standardized test and check
whether they differ based on room temperature.
LITERATURE REVIEW
A literature review is a piece of academic writing demonstrating
knowledge and understanding of the academic literature on a specific
topic placed in context. A literature review also includes a critical
evaluation of the material; this is why it is called a literature review
rather than a literature report.
Ex: APA in-text citation style uses the author's last name and the year
of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct quotations,
include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14). For
sources such as websites and e-books that have no page numbers, use a
paragraph number.
Order of references:
- For APA the reference list is arranged in alphabetical order of
authors' surnames.
- Arrange by first author's name, then by the second author if you have
the same first author, etc. ...
If a reference has no author, list it alphabetically according to the
title.
When citing multiple works parenthetically, place the citations in
alphabetical order, separating them with semicolons.
(Adams et al., 2019; Shumway & Shulman, 2015;
Westinghouse, 2017)
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK/PARADIGM
The theoretical framework is the structure that can hold or support
a theory of a research study. The theoretical framework introduces
and describes the theory that explains why the research problem
under study exists.
• PARADIGM
Paradigms are philosophical and theoretical frameworks used
within a discipline to formulate theories, generalizations, and the
experiments performed in support of them.
What is a conceptual framework/paradigm?
- The conceptual framework, is something you can develop yourself based on this theory.
- A conceptual framework is a written or visual representation of an expected relationship
between variables. Variables are simply the characteristics or properties that you want to
study. The conceptual framework is generally developed based on a literature review of
existing studies and theories about the topic.
What is a conceptual paradigm?.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
- The scope and delimitations of a thesis, dissertation or research paper define the topic and
boundaries of the research problem to be investigated. The scope details how in-depth your study
is to explore the research question and the parameters in which it will operate in relation to the
population and timeframe
- For example, let's say a researcher wants to study the impact of mobile phones on the behavior
patterns of elementary school children. However, it is not possible for the researcher to cover
every aspect of the topic. So the scope will have to be narrowed down to a certain section of the
target population
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance of the study is a written statement that explains why your research was
needed. It's a justification of the importance of your work and its impact on your research
field, its contribution to new knowledge, and how others will benefit from it.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
- Your actual thesis statement should define the term in your own words. Or dictionary
approach and authoritative reference.
Keep the definition in your thesis brief and basic. You will elaborate on it more in the body of
your paper.
Avoid using passive phrases involving the word “is” when defining your term. ...
Do not repeat part of the defined term in your definition.

Sampling Technique
Sampling means selecting the group that you will actually collect data from in your research.
For example, if you are researching the opinions of students in your university, you could
survey a sample of 100 students. In statistics, sampling allows you to test a hypothesis about
the characteristics of a population.
Research Locale/Study site
- Research Locale example. The study will be conducted in the Philippines. The respondents will
be interviewed in their houses or any comfortable place that the respondent will choose. The
researchers also gathered respondents residing in the USA. These respondents will be interviewed
via video chat. The researchers chose the place of implementation because it will give the
researchers the needed information for people with spina bifida. The study will be conducted in
the first semester of the academic year 2016-2017
