OVERVIEW OF THE PRESENTATION
INTRODUCTION
● It provides the utility with the tool for management of the planned and
unplanned activities in the network
● Usually, these activities imply isolation of the specific network parts in order
to prepare them for various types of maintenance or construction work in
that area
● In the presented example, the work order will contain the actions for
isolation of one feeder section for the purposes of the section isolation
replacement
● The first step of the process of planning an activity in the network is to fill the
formal work request
what is requested,
by whom,
when and why?
● One work request contains all relevant information (project configurable)
in the given example, the replacement
about the planned activity: the data about the responsible party in the
of the highlighted section’s isolation will be done
header and the equipment that will be necessary for the operation in the
body
the equipment that should be
isolated for the requested work
● The next step is to determine the necessary isolation points that will enable
the requested activity to be done properly
Section that will be isolated
● The user can specify the necessary isolation points or let the system
determine them based on the requested equipment for the isolation
● The necessary steps for the preparation of the work request are now done,
and the created work request is visible in the Work Request Browser
● Since no actions have been taken yet, the state of the new work request is
set to ‘draft’
● Once the work request is prepared, the distribution utility has to determine
the switching plan for the isolation of the section that will be operated
● The operators can specify the switching steps on their own or with the help
of the system

the system
Preparation of the switching plan
● System determines the steps for isolation using the “Element Isolation”
function, however safety rules for the planned work in the network can have
some special safety requirements (project configurable)

PREPARATION OF THE SWITCHING ACTIONS
The Work Requested status after
it has been approved
● After the switching plan is created and approved, the work request creation
is completed
● According to the utility regulations, the actions for submitting and approving
of the particular steps in the entire process of the work order management is
configurable
● After the work request has been approved the whole process of the
preparation for the work in the field has been done
● The execution process is led by the operator in charge in the control center
● The operator can execute switching actions directly in the control center if
the remote control of the corresponding equipment is provided
● If, however, no remote control exists or it does only on some of the selected
devices (which usually is the case), the operator leads the process from the
control room with the help of the field crew
● The first step is to assign the crew which will execute the operations in the
field
The properties
(informational data) of each
crew are provided
● Once the assigned crew arrives to the requested position in the network the
work plan execution can start
● The field crew and the operator in the control center can communicate via
telephones, radios or field clients, if provided
● In the presented example, the communication via field clients will be shown
● The field crew and the operator in the control center communicate via
some sort of the field client (lap-top, smartphone, tablet)
● On the field client the crew has an overview of the tasks they are
assigned to
