What Is Art?: Introduction and Assumptions

This document discusses definitions of art and assumptions about art. It explores how the definition of art has changed over time, from meaning skilled craft in Latin and Ancient times to referring to aesthetics and beauty in later eras. The document also outlines assumptions about art, such as it being universal across time and cultures, not defined by age, involving experience over just facts, and being a human expression and interpretation of nature rather than nature itself.
