Q3-Week 7 - Statistics and Probability

The document discusses the mechanics and objectives of the word scramble game. It provides examples of scrambled words and their correct unscrambled forms. The objectives are to illustrate the central limit theorem, define the sampling distribution of the sample mean using the central limit theorem, and solve problems involving sampling distributions of the sample mean.

ANAGRAMS
- is a word or phrase formed by rearranging the letters of
a different word or phrase, typically using all the original
letters exactly once.

Ex. Wordscapes, Word Shuffling, Word Scrambling,

etc.

Mechanics of the GAME
“Word Scramble” is an anagram game or word game.

The purpose of this game is to form the correct word using scrambled
letters.

• The players will rearrange the letters to form the correct word.

• Use the definition given to easily find the hidden word.

• The players are given a (30) seconds to answer every word of the game.

THEOREM
Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected
to:
1. illustrates the Central Limit Theorem.,
2. defines the sampling distribution of the sample
mean using the Central Limit Theorem
3. solves problems involving sampling
distributions of the sample mean.
Essential Question:
Why do we use Central Limit
Theorem in sampling distribution?
• Parameters are unknown and unknowable.

• We make INFERENCE of the population by taking sample to

calculate a statistic related to the parameter of interest.
Central Limit Theorem
 As sample size increases. The mean of the distribution
approaches a Normal distribution and variability decreases.
 The larger the sample size, the more normal the
distribution of sample means becomes. The CLT is central
to the concept of statistical inference because it permits us
to draw conclusions about the population based strictly on
sample data without having knowledge about the
distribution of the underlying population.
Distribution from Rice University
Variability of a Statistic
Example: The height of young women follows a Normal distribution
with mean µ = 64.5 inches and standard deviation σ = 2.5 inches.
1. If a population has a mean of 7.8, what is the
mean of the sampling distribution of its
mean?
=

2. If the mean of the sampling distribution of

the means is 8.75, what is the mean of the
population?
=
3. If a population has a variance of 8.4, what is the
variance of the sampling distribution of its means? The
sampling distribution has a sample size of 2 and all
possible samples are drawn with replacements.
=

4. If the population standard deviation is 3.8, what is

the standard deviation of the sampling distribution
of its means? A sample n = 4, drawn with
replacements.
=
5. If a population standard deviation is 3.5, what
is the population variance?

6. The age of the school students of Candon City

has a mean and variance of 16.02 and 3.03
respectively. If 80 students are chosen from
the population, what will be the expected
mean and the standard deviation of this
samples?
=
Essential Question:
Why do we use Central Limit
Theorem in sampling distribution?
What is the
importance of the
use of central limit
theorem in our daily
life?
Why do we use central limit
theorem?
 It allows us to safely assume that sampling
distribution of the mean will be normal in
most cases. This means that we can take
advantages of statistical techniques that
assume a normal distribution.

Solve the given problem involving sampling
distribution of the sample mean.
1. If n = 5, find the mean and standard
deviation of the sampling distributions of
the means.
2. The average height of male in the Philippines
with age 20 to 39 is 163.5cm while the
standard is 37.8cm. If we chose 200 from
these people what will be the expected mean
and the standard deviation of this sample?
1.Phone bills for residents of Candon
City have a mean of Php 3,200.00 and a
standard deviation of Php 450.00.
Random samples of 36 phone bills are
drawn from the population and the mean
of each sample is determined. Find the
mean, variance and standard deviation of
the mean of the sampling distribution.
