Science 4 Human Body System
Science 4 Human Body System
• Cell: All living things are made up of cells. A cell is the smallest unit of
life.
• Tissue: A collection of the same kind of cells forms a tissue.
• Organs: Tissues make organs such as your eyes, your stomach and
your heart.
• Body system: Several organs work together to form a body system.
• Organism: Together, body systems make up an organism, such as
yourself.
Human Body Systems
Human body system
• Digestive system
• Nervous system
• Circulatory system
• Respiratory system
• Skeletal system
• Muscular system
Human body system
• Digestive system: Breaks down food so that it can be used by the
body.
• Nervous system: Controls all body functions.
• Circulatory system: Transport blood around the body.
• Respiratory system: Allows exchange of gases in the lungs
• Skeletal system: Protects some organs, support the body and gives it
shape.
• Muscular system: Works with the bones to help the body to move.
Each system performs a special function to keep us healthy. If one of them
fails, our body will not function well.
How Do We Move?
• You can move about because you have two body systems that work
together – the skeletal system and the muscular system
The skeletal system
• The skeletal system is made up of your skeleton.
• Your skeleton is made up of bones.
• Bones give support and shape to your body.
• Bones allow you to move.
• Some bones also keep your organs safe.
The Skeletal System
• Skull: Your skull has 22 bones
that form a strong protective
“helmet” for your brain.
• Ribcage: Your ribcage has 12
pairs of curved bones called ribs
that protect your heart , lungs
and liver.
The Skeletal System
• Backbone: your backbone is
made up of 33 bones.
• One end of your backbone is
connected to your head and the
other end to the hip.
• Your backbone holds your body
upright. It helps you to twist and
bend. It also protects the spinal
cord.
The skeletal system
• Joints: Places in our skeletal system where bones meet. There are
three types of joints :
• Immovable joints
• Slightly movable joints
• Freely movable joints

Bones
• Your bones become bigger as you grow up. Some of them will join
together. You had about 300 bones as a baby, but your parents only
have 206 bones. Your bones keep growing until you are 20 years of
age.
Amazing fact
• Broken bones can repair themselves as long as they are put back
together. New bones grows over the broken part.
• The doctor puts a cast over a broken bone to allow it to repair itself
undisturbed.
• A cast can help to set the bones back to their original position.
