Analysis of Doubly Reinforced T-Beam

The document analyzes the ultimate moment capacity of a concrete T-beam with given properties. It calculates the steel reinforcement and concrete areas, classifies the beam as in the transition region, and determines the nominal and factored moment capacities based on the yield strengths and forces of the steel and concrete. The analysis finds the factored moment capacity of the beam to be 626.578 kN-m.

ANALYSIS OF

DOUBLY
REINFORCED T-BEAM
BY: CHRISTIAN JUDE S. LEGASPI
BSCE 5C
Determine the ultimate moment capacity of a required concrete T-beam with the
following properties.
flange width, bf = 600 mm
web width, bw = 315 mm
slab thickness, tf = 100 mm
Assume f’c = 27 MPa and fy = 410 MPa . The beam is reinforced with 8-28 mm bats
at the bottom and 2-22 mm bars at the top.
 GIVEN:
f’c = 27 MPa
fy = 410 MPa

*Assume all steel yield:

2 scenario: As = 8[π/4(28)^2] d = 100 + 390 – 20 – 28 – 25/2
• Ts yield and Cs yield = 1568π = 429.5 mm
• Ts yield and Cs not yield A’s = 2[π/4(22)^2] d’ = 50 + 22/2
= 242π = 61 mm
ΣFH =0 Af = 600(100)
T = C + C’ = 60000 sq. mm
Ac = 74,420.839 sq. mm
Asfy = o.85f’cAc + A’s fy Since Ac > Af
1568π(410) = 0.85(27)Ac + 242π(410) Therefore a > tf
A2 = Ac - Af A2 = bw(z)
A2 = 74420.839 – 60,000 14,420.839 = 315(Z)

a = tf + z 17 < f’c < 28

= 145.708 mm 145.708 = 0.85c
c = 171.506 mm

fs = 600 [(d-c)/c] f’s = 600[(c-d’)/c]

= 600 [(429.5-171.506)/171.506] = 600[(171.506 – 61)/171.506]
= 902.571 > fy ; steel yield
= 386.596 MPa < fy
; steel not yield
