Determine the ultimate moment capacity of a required concrete T-beam with the
following properties.
flange width, bf = 600 mm
web width, bw = 315 mm
slab thickness, tf = 100 mm
Assume f’c = 27 MPa and fy = 410 MPa . The beam is reinforced with 8-28 mm bats
at the bottom and 2-22 mm bars at the top.
GIVEN:
f’c = 27 MPa
fy = 410 MPa
ΣFH =0
T = C + C’
Asfy = o.85f’cAc + A’sf’s
1568π(410) = 0.85(27)(Af+A2) + 242π[600(c-d’)/c]
a - 100
1568π(410) = 0.85(27)[(600x100)+315(B1c-100)] +
242π[600(c-61)/c]
fs = 600[(d-c)/c]
fy < fs < 1000 = 600[(429.5-174.020)/174.020]
∅ = 0.65 + 0.25(fs-fy/1000-fy)
= 0.65 + 0.25[(880.864-410)/1000-410]
= 0.8495
Mn = C1Y1 + C2Y2 + C’
Af = 600(100) Y1 = 429.5 – 100/2
Mn = 0.85f’cAfY1 + 0.85f’cA2Y2 + A’sf’s(d-d’)
= 60000 sq. mm = 379.5 mm
= 0.85(27)(60,000)(379.5) + 0.85(27)(15,093.855)(305.542)+
A2 = 315(47.917) Y2 = 429.5 – 100 – 47.917/2 242π(389.679)(429.5-61)
