Which part of the power station? What happens here?
Oil → Nothing much is happening here. However, we can see that the A oil will be burnt in the boiler at B later. Recall, the energy conversion during burning. It always starts with chemical potential energy. In the boiler, the purpose is to generate steam by boiling water. This B is quite clear that thermal energy (heat) is required. C At the steam turbine, the steam is used to rotate the turbine (refer to the right image). A moving turbine means that there is kinetic energy. The energy from the moving turbine is transferred to the generator D via the drive shaft. The generator’s purpose is to generate electricity, which will be transferred via cables to power the city.
