PMTS

PMTS, or a Predetermined Motion Time System, is a work measurement technique whereby times established for basic
human motions are used to build up the time for a job at a defined level of performance.

·A collection of basic motion times.

·Technique for obtaining a standard time by:
o analyzing and subdividing a task into elemental motions
o assigning pre-set standard times for motions and summing
these to obtain a standard time for the whole task.

PMTS

Popular Predetermined Motion Time Systems are:

MOST - DEFINITION

MOST or the Maynard Operation Sequencing Technique, is a predetermined motion time system that is used to set the
standard time for a worker to perform a task; it is designed to simplify and speed up the process of setting engineered time
standards, and is the primary work measurement tool used to establish standards here at Jabil.

MOST - EXAMPLES

• Pick up a heavy box within reach and place it on an empty pallet

on the floor 2 steps away
A1 B0 G3 A3 B6 P3 A0
= 160 TMU

• Pick up a book from the desk 3 steps away and move it to the
bookshelf 7 steps away
A6 B0 G1 A10 B0 P1 A0
= 180 TMU

• Grasp and move a handwheel 5 turns, within reach, pivoting at wrist

A1 B0 G1 M10 X0 I0 A0
= 120 TMU

MOST – (DIS-)ADVANTAGES

+ -
Application speed Certification needed
Easy to learn, no performance Not ideal for non repetitive
rating needed operations
High accuracy (+/- 5%)
Generate consistent results
Encourages method improvement

MOST - SEQUENCES

1 General Move Sequence

For example:
An associate bends to get a heavy case from the bottom bay of a racking system
and then walks three steps to put the case on a pallet.
Go back to list
This is shown in MOST as:
A1 B6 G3 A6 B0 P1 A0
(1+6+3+6+1+0=17)
17 X 10 = 170 TMU or 6.12 seconds.

MOST - SEQUENCES

2 Controlled Move Sequence

For example:
After placing a check in a register drawer, a clerk reaches to contact the drawer and pushes it
Go back to list back into the register by seating it in place.

This is shown in MOST as:

A1 B0 G1 M3 X0 I0 A0
(1+1+3=5)
5 X 10 = 50 TMU or 1.80 seconds.

MOST - SEQUENCES

3 Tool Use Sequence

For example:
An operator grasps a small ratchet six steps away, walks back to the work area and loosens a nut with eight
wrist turns. The ratchet is laid aside within reach.
Go back to list
This is shown in MOST as:
A10 B0 G1 A10 B0 P3 L16 A1 B0 P1 A0
(10+1+10+3+16+1+1=42)
42 X 10 =
420 TMU or 15.12 seconds.

4 Equipment Use Sequence

For example:
An associate walks five steps to a computer terminal and enters her four-digit personal
identification number to access a software system.
Go back to list
This is shown in MOST as:
A0 B0 G0 A10 B0 P1 K3 A0 B0 P0 A0
(10+1+3=14)
14 X 10 =140 TMU or 5.04 seconds.

MOST – NORMAL & STANDARD TIME

The normal time is the basic work content of a job or process which
can be defined as the sum of Manual time (Hand) and Process Time
The result of a
(Machine)
MOST analysis
is the
An Allowance, or PF&D, is given to take care of
normal time - personal needs (P),
- fatigue or rest time (F), and
- minor delays (D)

Normally this is mentioned as % of the basic work content or the

Normal time.

This Allowance is necessary to get the Standard Time which a normal

operator can achieve on regular basis under normal operational
conditions.

So the standard time is the Normal Time + PF&D Allowances

Standard Time = Normal Time x (1 + PF&D %)
