Ballad a poem that tells a story about a
famous person or event in rhythmic verse. EPIC ❑ Excerpt from Beowulf: ❑ Shield was still thriving when his time came and he crossed over into the Lord's keeping. His warrior band did what he bade them when he laid down the law among the Danes: they shouldered him out to the sea's flood, the chief they revered who had long ruled them. Example of a Ballad Metrical tale is a narrative poem which is written in verse that relates to real or imaginary events in simple, straight forward language, from a wide range of subjects, characters, life experiences, and emotional situations. Example of a Metrical Tale Thoughts of the Day We have a laugh, and drink a beer, Play some golf, and hunt for deer.

Friendship to share, on Happy Father’s Day! A Metrical romance is a kind of poetry dealing with the emotions or phase of life and the story is told in a simple, straightforward and realistic manner. It has a happy ending whether love is involved or not. Example of a Metrical romance DRAMATIC POETRY ✔ it is poetry that portrays life and character through action in powerful, emotion –packed lines such as those in Shakespeare’s plays. Other Forms of Poetry 1.Limerick – a five line witty poem with a distinctive rhythm. The first, second and fifth longer lines, rhyme. The third and fourth shorter lines rhyme. ( A-A-B-B-A ) 2. HAIKU an unrhymed verse form of Japanese origin having three lines containing usually five, seven and five syllables respectively. 3. Free Verse a poem that does not follow any rules. Their creation is completely in the hands of the author. Rhyming, syllable count, punctuation, number of lines, number of stanzas and line formation can be done however the author wants in order to convey the idea. 4. Acrostic –a composition usually in verse in which sets of letters ( as the initial or the final letters of the lines) taken in order form a word or phrase or a regular sequence of letters of the alphabet. 5. SIJO is a Korean traditional poetic form that may be narrative or thematic and introduces a situation in line 1, development in line 2,and twist and conclusion in line 3. 6. Tanka is also a Japanese poem containing 5 lines with 5-7-5-7-7 syllables 7. Villanelle is a nineteen-line poetic form consisting of 5 tercets followed by a quatrain.
