Week 6

This document provides information on converting systems of measurement for recipes. It discusses converting between cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ounces, grams, pounds, kilograms, liters, milliliters, and Celsius and Fahrenheit temperatures. Examples are given for converting volumes of liquid and mass of dry ingredients. A performance task requires converting the ingredients in a cookie recipe between various units of measure. An assessment with multiple choice questions tests understanding of conversion calculations.

according to recipe requirement
Week 6
Lesson objectives
Lesson objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1.Identify the ways to convert system of measurement
according to recipe requirement.
2.Follow the formula in converting measurement of
ingredients accurately.
3. Appreciate the importance of conversion of
measurements in ingredients.
FILL IT UP!
Directions: Match the missing measurements in Column A to their equivalents in Column B. Write
your answers on the blank space provided in each picture.
Answer Key

WHAT I KNOW:
•B. ¼ cup = 4 Tbsp = 12 tsp
•A. 9 oz = 280 g = 6 inches
•C. 4 cups = 32 oz = 1 liter
•E. ¼ cup = 2 oz = 60 ml
•D. 338 °F= 170 °C
Measurement is finding a number
that shows the size or amount of
something we can measure.
Conversion of units is
the conversion between different
units of measurement for the same
quantity.
CONVERSION OF INGREDIENTS

WEIGHT (MASS)
TO CONVERT CONVERSION FACTOR RESULT
Ounces x 28.349 grams
Pounds x 0.454 kilograms
Grams x 0.035 ounces
Kilograms x 2.205 pounds

DRY INGREDIENTS CONVERSION

CUPS WEIGHT US METRIC
½ oz 15 g ¼ inch 5 mm
1 oz 30 g ½ inch 1 cm
2 oz 60 g ¾ inch 2 cm
3 oz 90 g 1 inch 2.5 cm
9 oz 280 g 6 inches 15 cm
10 oz 315 g 7 inches 18 cm
CUPS AND SPOONS

1 US cup is equal to 16 US tablespoons. To convert cups

to tablespoons, multiply the cup value by 16. For example,
to find how many tablespoons is 1/4 cup of water, multiply
0.25 by 16, that makes 4 tbsp is 1/4 cup of water.
Example:
5 cups of water = ___ tablespoon
5x 16 = 80 tablespoon

CUPS TO TEASPOON

1 US cup is equal to 48 US teaspoons. To convert

cups to teaspoons, multiply the cup value by 48.
Example:
¼ cup of water = ___teaspoon
0.25 x 48 = 12 teaspoon
VOLUME MEASUREMENT FORMULA:

TO CONVERT CONVERSION FACTOR RESULT

ounces x 29.574 millimeters pints x
473.176 millimeters
quarts x 0.946 liters
gallons (US) x 3.785 liters
millimeters x 0.034 ounces
liters x 2.113 pints
liters x 1.057 quarts
liters x 0.264 gallons (US)

OVEN TEMPERATURES FORMULA:

To convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit, first multiply by 9/5, then

add 32.
To convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius, first subtract 32, then
multiply by 5/9.
TO CONVERT CONVERSION FACTOR RESULT
Celsius (__x1.8) + 32 or x 9/5 +32 Fahrenheit
Fahrenheit (__-32) x 0.5556 or (__-32) X 5/9Celsius
MIND THE GAP

Directions: Convert the given measurements and fill in

the blanks to complete the equivalents.

1. ____ cup = 12 Tbsp = ____ tsp
2. ____ cup = ___ Tbsp = 24 tsp
3. 392 °F = ____°C
4. ____ oz = ____ g = 2 cups
5. 1 cup = 8 oz = _____ ml

Answer Key
WHAT’S MORE:
•¾ cup = 12 Tbsp = 36 tsp
•½ cup = 8 Tbsp = 24tsp
•392 °F = 200 °C
•16 oz = 500 g = 2 cups
•1 cup = 8 oz = 250 ml
COOKIE MASTER!(Performance Task)

Directions: Make your own cookie recipe by converting the units

into their equivalent measurement.

Chocolate cookie Ingredients:
1. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted = _____ Tbsp
