The Common Monomial Factor
contains the greatest common factor
(GCF) of all the numerical coefficients
of the terms and the literal coefficients
with the least exponent.
COMMON MONOMIAL

STEP 1: Identify first the greatest common factor (GCF) of the numerical
coefficients.

STEP 2: Identify the literal coefficient with the least exponent.

STEP 3: The combination of the GCF among the numerical coefficients


and literal coefficient with the least exponent will be the CMF of the given
polynomial.

STEP 4: Use this CMF to divide each term of the polynomial to obtain the
other factor.

A general trinomial is a polynomial with
three terms, where both first and third
terms are not perfect squares.

A general trinomial is a product of two


binomials and can be factored by trial and
error. The expected factors are two
binomials.
