Public Market Drainage System Problem in The Municipality of Claveria

The document discusses drainage issues at the public market in Claveria Municipality. Wastewater is generated from meat, fish, and produce stalls as well as public restrooms. Poor drainage is caused by debris, solid waste, and fats/oils/grease clogging the system. Without proper drainage, soils become oversaturated which can damage foundations, attract pests, and grow mold. Solutions recommended include French drains, downspout drainage, trench/channel drains, catch basins, and percolation trenches to disperse water away from the yard.

Public Market Drainage

System Problem in the

Municipality of Claveria
What is a drainage system?
• Drainage systems are in place to remove the excess water in
development. This could be floodwater, rainwater, and different
kinds of run off.
• Drainage systems are also in place to remove wastewater
effectively, and this is referred to as a sewer system.
Claveria Public Market Wastewater
• Wastewater from Claveria public market is generated from distinct
sources and activities.
• These include:
Meat, poultry, fish preparation and sales
Fruit and vegetable (produce) sales
Prepared food stalls
Public restrooms
Causes of Poor Drainage
• Normal Debris Causing Clogs
• Solid Waste
• Fats, Oil and Grease
Impact on Environment
• Oversaturation of the soils in the ground: As the soils become
oversaturated with water, they can expand and put a lot of pressure on
your foundation. This pressure can eventually cause your foundation to
crack or your basement walls to bow or buckle.
• Bug and pest infestation: The excess water in your yard can lead to an
increase in bugs and pests as they love to live in damp places.
• Mold and allergens: If the excess water is not taken care of, it can
eventually cause mold to grow in your yard and lead to allergen or
health-related issues for you and your family.
• Damage to landscape: Improper drainage can cause parts of your yard
to flood and result in damaged landscaping.
Solution and Recommendation
• French Drain: A French drain is a large perforated pipe that collects water and disperses it far away from
your yard.
• We use the EZ-Flow French Drain as it typically outperforms more traditional drains that are built with
gravel.
• Downspout Drainage: Installing a proper downspout can help prevent your yard from flooding. As your
gutters do their job to collect your roof water, they need to connect to a downspout so that the water is
properly drained from your yard.
• We install the RainChute, RainChute EZ, and LawnSpace Outlet for proper drainage and to help prevent the
roof water from flooding your yard.
• Trench Drain/Channel Drain: A trench drain is a surface drainage solution that prevents water from
collecting at slopes in your driveway, doorways, or stairways. It collects water and properly channels it away
from your home.
• Catch Basin: A catch basin can be placed in the ground to help eliminate standing water and move the
water through to an underground drainage system to improve yard drainage.
• Percolation Trench: This type of trench is an excavated trench that is filled with gravel or stone and helps
channel storm water runoff far away from your yard to prevent flooding.
