WEEK 3 - Proportion
PROPORTIO
N
Prayer
Father, we praise You for who You are.
We give You thanks because You created us in your own image.
Also we pray for knowledge and understanding for teachers, leaners and
parents.
We pray that You wil l give l earners tenaci ty as they seek for
understanding and new revel ations in their studies.
Father we also pray for parents, that they wi ll support leaners by building
a closer working rel ati onship with teachers. This we ask in Jesus name.
Amen
LEARNING
COMPETENCIES
1. Identify the different kinds of
proportions and write examples of
real-life situations for each
(ABM_BM11RP-Ie-3)
2. Solve problems involving direct,
inverse and partitive proportion
(ABM_BM11RP-If-4)
RECALL
A RATIO is a comparison of two quantities by division.
The ratio of a and b can be written in two ways:
50 minutes to 2 hours
Express the following ratios in similar unit and in
lowest term.
2000 g to 1.5 kg
Use ratio to make decisions
In the dry goods market, one bakery sells pandesal at 6 pieces for
PHP 18, while the other bakery sells 10 pieces for Php 25. Which
bakery sells pandesal at a cheaper price?
What’s In?
1. =
2. =
3. 4(X) = 3(24)
4. 7 × 20 = 14 × X
5. 2X + 3X + 4X = 81
If and are two equal ratios, then
the statement = is called a
proportion, where a, b, c, and d
are called terms of the
proportion. The terms a and d are
called the extremes while b and c
are called the means.
PROPORTION
To find the missing term in a
proportion,
ad = bc
EXAMPLE
Find the missing term in the proportion.
9 : 3 = 126 : a
EXAMPLE
If a photocopying machine can be make 40 copies in one minute,
how many copies can it make in 8.4 minutes?
TYPES
OF
PROPORTION
Identify the relationship exists in each situation either
direct, inverse or partitive.
X1 : Y1 = X2 : Y2
Example:
If you buy 2kg rice at Php 75, then you expect to pay Php 150 for
4kg of rice
EXAMPLE
Four oranges weigh as much as 7 lemons. At this rate,
how many lemons will weigh as much as 36 oranges?
INVERSE
PROPORTION
The product of two quantities being compared is constant
X1 . Y1 = X2 . Y2
Example:
If 10 men can build a kubo for 5 days, 5 men can build it for 10
days
EXAMPLE
A water delivery supplies water in Mahinahon Village. Suppose it
takes four pipes to fill a water tank for 50 minutes, how long will
it take to fill the tank if five pipes are used?
PARTITIVE
PROPORTION
In this proportion, the quantity is
divided into two or more parts based
on the given fixed ratio of these parts
