Introduction of
Fourier Transform
•Definition: A Fourier transform is a
mathematical technique for converting a
time function into one expressed in terms
of frequency.
• A Fourier transform is a circuit analysis
technique that decomposes or separates a
waveform or function into sinusoids of
different frequency which sum to the
original waveform.
3
Application of Fourier
Transform
•The Fourier transform has many applications, in fact any field of
physical science that uses sinusoidal signals, such as engineering,
physics, applied mathematics, and chemistry, will make use of
Fourier series and Fourier transforms.
•So Fourier Transform is used in different fields such as :
•Application in medical field
•Application in Chemistry (Spectroscopy)
•Application in Physics (Optics)

Application of Fourier Transform in Medical fields
Electrocardiogram(ECG)
• An Electrocardiogram is a record
of electrical potentials that are
generated by Heart and measured
on the surface the chest.
• In addition to electrical response
of heart , electrode placed on
the skin also pick up other
electrical signals that we record as
"noise". We wish to design a filter
to eliminate the noise.

We can identify "noise" using the Fourier Graph shown how Filtered & Unfiltered

A Deeper Dive Into Physics
Mechanical Sciences
12
Fourier transforms are used to obtain
expressions for the heat flux from a
surface region at a given temperature.
13
Fourier transform outputs
vibration amplitude as a
function of frequency so that
the analyzer can understand
what is causing the vibration.
14
Atmospheric Turbulence have
always been a great challenge
and here Fourier transform
comes to our aid.....and we can
calculate such eddy size
distribution that may help
control the turbulence in said
control volume.
