On Energy Conservation
On Energy Conservation
Only a few years after the major cuts seen in 2015 and 2016, investment in the oil
and gas sector was hit with an even greater shock in 2020. Markets, companies
and entire economies reeled from the effects of the global crisis caused by the
Covid-19 pandemic, and the impacts were felt all along the global hydrocarbon
supply chains.
Natural gas prices (already low before the crisis) and consumption have also been
affected by lockdowns, although not to the same extent as oil. But oversupplied
gas markets are likewise showing signs of strain and these pressures could
intensify later in the year as gas storage facilities, already at record highs, fill up
even further.
Renewables dominate investment in new power generation and are expected to account for
70% of 2021’s total of USD 530 billion spent on all new generation capacity. Investment in
grids and storage makes up the remainder.
Electrification was also a major driver of investment spending by final consumers. Electric
vehicle sales continue to surge along with a proliferation of new model offerings by
automakers, supported by fuel economy targets and zero-emissions-vehicle mandates
Upstream oil and gas investment is expected to rise by about 10% in 2021 as companies
recover financially from the shock of 2020, but spending remains well below pre-crisis
levels. Firmer demand and higher oil and gas prices have led to diverging investment
strategies. Cost control remains a common theme, but some major national oil companies are
looking to invest counter-cyclically to gain market share. Qatar’s decision to move ahead
with the world’s largest LNG expansion, and to include carbon capture in its development
plans, is a strong statement of intent to maintain a leadership position in LNG.
Pollution
A pollutant is a waste product that pollutes the environment, such as the
air, water, or soil. A pollutant's severity is determined by three factors: its
chemical type, concentration, extent of damage, and duration
What Are Carbon Emissions?
Carbon emissions refer to the release of carbon dioxide, a type of greenhouse gas
(GHG) that filters into the atmosphere both naturally and from human activities like
deforestation, electricity consumption, and industrial manufacturing.
Greenhouse gas emissions trap heat in the atmosphere,
• leading to several changes like global warming,
• deterioration of the ozone layer,
• and destruction of ecosystems
. While plants and animals also emit carbon, human activity like the burning of
fossil fuels, manufacturing, and transportation has been a leading cause of the
sharp increase in CO2 emissions.
Why is Reducing carbon
emissions important?
Reducing carbon emissions can:
• Save lives.
• Ease the burden of the healthcare system.
• Reduce wildfires.
What if You're "Just" an End User?
Thankfully, the end user should have goals that align with energy conservation already-because
they already wish to save money on their monthly utility bills. It all starts with something as
simple as turning off the lights when they're not in use, or switching off a power strip when
finished with appliances. Those in a position of power should be educating others in the
building about how to make better use of the earth's, and not the electric company's resources.
The good news for end users is that social pressure will work. When you start making better
choices, the people around will notice and do the same. This type of snowball effect is necessary
for every single person in the country. While designers, developers, architects, and construction
crews may have the responsibility at the beginning, it's up to all of us to keep their efforts going.
Without a conscientious attitude, environmental degradation will only continue to get worse.
But individuals working together can turn this around.
Role of Green Energy Club :
Green Energy Club mainly concentrates in Creating awareness
regarding the importance and methods of Energy Conservation along
with its effective utilization.
The objectives of this club are :
• To inculcate the habit of energy conservation among Indian Public.
• To provide industrial / field experience regarding the upcoming
technologies.
• To improve outdoor recreational activities.
