1) Beginning in the 1400s, several Islamic missionaries arrived in Mindanao from Sumatra and the Middle East and began spreading Islam. 2) By the early 1600s, many areas of Mindanao like Pulangi and Ranao had sufficiently incorporated Islam into their societies and converted. 3) In the 1700s, Sharif Alawi's missionary efforts extended the reach of Islam further across Mindanao to places like Bukidnon and Lanao.
