Main Teaching points / Whole Class Activities
• Starter: Show the below video link to students about ‘Apostrophes’.
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gubPH3WEurg&t=4s
• Discussion about the video link. Ask students to explain their understanding
of the video watched.
• Next, students read the ‘Helpful hints’ box on Learner’s book page 6,
explaining apostrophes.
• Students write the definition of ‘apostrophes’ in their note books copying it
from the helpful hint box on page 5.
• Students will do exercise 2 on Learner’s book page 6, in the learner’s book
itself. Complete the table by writing the pair of words for each contraction.
MINI-PLENARY:

• What are apostrophes and why do we use them?

• Use your white board to write the contractions for these words using apostrophes.

INDEPENDENT TASK:
Activity 1:
• Students will do workbook page 2 Ex-1 first….if they finish exercise-1 they may be
encouraged to move on to exercise-2.
• Date to be written on the page.
Activity 2:
• Students will do workbook page 2- Ex-1 & 2. Challenge them to do exercise-3 if
they finish ex-1 & 2.
• Date to be written on the page.
Activity 3:
• Students will do workbook page 2-Ex-1, 2 & 3 independently.
•  Date to be written on the page.
•  Ext: Write a short passage using contractions.

• Reading for pleasure: Read any text/story for 10 minutes and
make a list of the apostrophes that you came across in the text
while reading it on a rough paper and bring it to school
tomorrow for discussion.
• Bring an advertisement/flyer/brochure or newspaper article to
class tomorrow for your English lesson.
