Cold War

The Cold War was a political and ideological rivalry between the United States and Soviet Union that began after World War II and lasted until 1991. Capitalism promoted private ownership and free market economies, while communism advocated for public ownership and a classless society. During the Cold War, both sides engaged in proxy wars and a nuclear arms race. Mikhail Gorbachev's reforms of perestroika and glasnost weakened the Soviet Union and contributed to the end of the Cold War.
