The weather is beautiful today! The sun is shining mildly. And the day
feels cool. Puffy white clouds are floating peacefully across the sky and the
wind is blowing gently across the city. It is the right time to go walking now.

How beautiful is the weather today! Mildly shining is the sun. And the day

Gently blowing across the city is the wind. Now is the right time to go
walking.

 What can you say about the order of the subject and predicate in the two
descriptions?
 normal word order - the subject in the sentence is followed by a
verb.
 inverted word order - the verb precedes or comes before its subject.
In an inverted sentence or inversion, the verb comes before the subject.

 Inverted word order is found in questions.

Examples: How are you todays?


Is Marco your brother?
Where did they find the key?

 Not all questions are inverted

Example: Who have been to Baguio?


 A sentence that begins with here or there is usually inverted.

Examples: Here are the ingredients for the dish.


There are books on the table.

 Some sentences beginning with here and there are not inverted.

Examples: Here she is


There they are.
 Some sentences follow the inverted word order to give emphasis or
effect.

Examples: Never has the prisoner eaten better food than when he
was jailed.
Hardly ever does Henry come to class on time..
