RACI Chart - Communication Pack

This document discusses the development of a RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed) chart. It defines the RACI roles and explains that a RACI chart explicitly defines roles and responsibilities to avoid duplication of work. The document provides examples of what a RACI chart looks like and the process to develop one, which includes listing activities, verifying tasks, assigning time estimates, and developing an aspirational chart to improve processes by reducing duplication and increasing clarity of roles.

Communication Pack
WHAT is RACI?
Definitions

Responsible
• Those who do the work to achieve the task. There is at least one role with a participation type of responsible, although others can be
delegated to assist in the work required
Accountable
• The one ultimately answerable for the correct and thorough completion of the deliverable or task, and the one who delegates the work
to those responsible. In other words, an accountable must sign off (approve) work that responsible provides. There must be only
one accountable specified for each task or deliverable
Consulted
• Those whose opinions are sought, typically subject matter experts; and with whom there is two-way communication
Informed
• Those who are kept up-to-date on progress, often only on completion of the task or deliverable; and with whom there is just one-way
communication.
WHY develop RACI?

• It reflects the underlying principles of the Six Sigma

methodology

• Explicitly define the roles and responsibilities

• Evaluate the need for delegation

• Avoiding Duplication of efforts

• Better Visibility of where time is spent
