Tissues Class Work

Tissues are groups of cells that work together to perform a specific function. There are two main types of tissues - plant tissues and animal tissues. Plant tissues include meristematic tissue and permanent tissue. Meristematic tissue is responsible for plant growth while permanent tissue provides structure and support. Xylem and phloem are examples of complex permanent tissues that transport water and nutrients. Tissues allow for division of labor and provide structure in multicellular organisms.

1.What is Tissues?

> A group of cells having similar shape and function act

together to perform specific function is known as a
Tissue.
> All the body parts are madeup of tissues including the
organs.
> Group of tissues made organs.
> Different types of tissues are found in plants and
animals.
2.What is the utility of tissues in multicellular
organisms?
The use of tissues in multicellular organisms is to
provide structural and mechanical strength as well as to
allow division of labour.
Notes:
Tissues:
A group of cells have a similar structure
and functions working together to do a
peculiar functions called tissues.
3. Types of Tissues:

# Plant Tissue
# Animal tissue
4.Plant Tissues:
Plant tissue is a collection of similar cells performing an
organized functions for the plant.
Types of Plant tissues: * Meristematic Tissue
* Permanent Tissue
Functions: Help provide mechanical strength to organ,
flexibility and metabolism
5.Meristematic Tissue:
# It is responsible for the growth of plant.
#Meristematic tissue has the ability to divide and
redivide to provide growth to plants.
6. Apical Meristem:
# These meristem are present at the tip regions of root, shoot and leaves.
# They are the active regions in the cell division which helps in the growth and
elongation of root and shoot.
# It give rise to new individual and hence these are referred as primary tissues un
the plant growth.
7.Intercalary Meristem:
These meristem that are present at the base of the internodes of stem and petioles
of leaves are known as intercalary meristems.
8.Lateral Meristem
A meristem (as the cambium or cork cambium ) that is arranged parallel to the
sides of an organ and that is responsible for increase in diameter of the organ.
9.Significance of Meristematic Tissue:
The continued cell division initiated new
cells of expansion differentiation of
9.

tissues and new organ.

10.Permanent Tissues:
* Permanent tissues are those tissues which
has lost the power of cell division.
* Cells Of permanent tissues are matured
assume a definite shape, size and functions.
Types of Permanent tissue:
Simple Permanent tissue and Complex
Permanent tissue.

11. Simple Permanent Tissue:

Tissues consists of the same cells
performing a similar functions and occur
in homogenous group
12.Types:
* Sclerenchyma
*Collenchyma
*Parenchyma
*Cholorenchyma
*Aerenchyma
Sclerenchyma Tissue:
• The main function of schlerenchyma tissue is
providing mechanical support.
• Sclerenchyma tissues are elongated dead cells.
• Legnin deposit in their cell wall
• No intercellular space
• Providing mechanical strength and protection to the
plant.
• They are mostly dead and devoid of protoplast.
Collenchyma Tissue:
> It consists of thin walled livibg cell.
> In collenchyma cells are thickened at a localized
regions.
> They are involved in food storage.
> They are the chief mechanical tissue in young plansts,
particularly dicot stem.
> Collenchyma allows the light to reach deeper
photosynthesis tissues.
> It provides strength and flexibility to the plants.
ParenchymaTissue:

^ It consists of live unspecialized cell having their cell

wall.

^ They are loosely packed and have laerge intercellular

space ( Space between cells.

^ Provide supports to the plants are present in all parts

like roots, shoots, stem , leaves and fruits.
Chlorenchyma Tissue:

* It is a type of parenchyma tissue which contains chlorophyll.

* It performs the function of photosynthesis in plants.

* Chlorenchyma which provides green colour that is

chloroplast and help in Photosynthesis.

* So providing green colour to the plant it is said to be

Chlorenchyma.
13.Complex Permanent Tissue:

Complex permanent tissues is defined as a collection of

structurally dissimilar cells performing a common
function or set of functions.

They are nade up of more than one type of cell.

They are of two types : * Xylem

* Phloem
Xylem:

# Xylem is a complex permanent tissues found in all

parts such as the roots, stem and leaves of higher
plants.

# It is made up of four kind of cells out of which one is

living (Xylem parenchyma) and three and dead vessels,
tracheids and Xylem fibres.
14.Functions:

* The main functions of xylem is water transports from

roots and to the other parts of the plant.

* Xylem also provides mechanical strength.

* Tracheids and vessels are the main elements for

conducting water.
