Technical Presentation On Condensate Classification

The document outlines the phases and status of a project to classify Nigerian natural gas liquids (NGLs) and gas condensates according to OPEC resolution. Phase 1 classified reservoirs in 2017. Phase 2 involved further sampling and testing of "borderline" reservoirs from 2018-2019. Phase 3 objectives are to conduct additional PVT/compositional analysis and compute production volumes of identified gas condensate reservoirs. To date, sampling and analysis is over 70% complete, with some challenges around operator access and well status. Integration of the phase results and a final report will complete the project.

BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
• The OPEC Representative from the Office of the
Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources (MPR)
plans to get all NGLs and Gas Condensate from the
Niger Delta Basin and the Deep Offshore Classified
according to OPEC resolution LXXXIV286.

• Based on the foregoing, the assistance of the Group

Managing Director of NNPC was sought, to mandate
NNPC R&D Division in collaboration with DPR to carry
out the classification based on the OPEC resolution
indicated above.

• To compute the daily volume of Gas Condensate

PHASE 1: OVERVIEW
BACKGROUND
• Commencement & Completion Date: January,
2017 - December, 2017.
• Joint Project Team: NNPC R&D (Now NOFS)
and DPR (Now NUPRC)
• Technical Consultant: HPO Global Resources.

OBJECTIVES
 To classify Nigerian Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs)
and Gas condensate from all reservoirs in
compliance with OPEC classification criteria.

BACKGROUND
• Commencement & Completion Date: February,
2018 - July, 2019
• Joint Project Team: NNPC R&D (Now NOFS)
and DPR (Now NUPRC)

OBJECTIVES
 To carry out atmospheric sampling of identified
“Borderline” fluids.
 To subject all sampled “Borderline” fluid samples to
batch distillation test (ASTM D86) based on OPEC
criteria.

Milestone Four: Completed (45/45) reservoirs
 PVT/Compositional analysis of first batch of 40
reservoirs in external laboratory and 5 reservoirs in
NOFS laboratory.

 Milestone Five: Ongoing

 Ongoing plans to ship batch 2 samples to external

S/No. Description No. of Reservoirs %

1 Gas Condensate 20 22
2 Oil Reservoirs 48 53
3 Borderline 22 24
Total 1445 100
CHALLENGES

Delay by Operators to grant access into their facilities

for sampling of the identified reservoirs.

Being unable to get samples due to:

Reservoirs/Well status (shut-in wells),
Test separator availability in field location and
Lack of feedback from Operators.
RECOMMENDATIONS

 Continuous discussions with the Operators on

invitations to get samples from identified reservoirs.

 Follow up on the current status of the

fields/reservoirs/wells before we mobilize to the
locations.

 Early volume computation of the identified reservoirs,

to optimize time and fast completion of the project.
