INTRODUCTION
Development activities for exploring oil and gas is moving into deeper
water
The development of new fields can either be initiated via long tie-
backs to an existing facility or by installing a new stand-alone facility
Tie-backs projects are less expensive due to advances in technology
It is economical in that its tied back to an existing facility
Environmental impacts of oil and gas operations may influence
species, populations, assemblages, or ecosystem
Identifying these problems and mitigating them prior to a project is of
3
paramount importance
SUBSEA DEVELOPMENTS
Larger projects
Lower cost
Smaller projects

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Potential impacts are generally assessed through some type of
formal process, termed an environmental impact assessment (EIA).
The EIA identifies, predicts, evaluates and mitigates impacts prior to a
project
Several environmental survey identified the following potential
environmental issues;
Discharges to sea
Waste
8
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Accidental Hydrocarbon Releases
Physical Presence
Emission to Air
Seabed Disturbance
Underwater Noise
9
CONCLUSION
Environmental Impact Assessment test (EIA) should be done before
embarking on any project and mitigation should be identified to
reduce the environmental and social risks.
