What is a Keyboard

This is a device that resembles a type


writer and is used to enter data into the
computer.

What is Keyboarding
This is the process of typing and selecting
keys on the keyboard.

Parts of a Keyboard
Function Keys These are used to perform specific tasks by
the computer. They are labelled F1 to F12

Alphanumeric Keys Also known as typing keys, they are four


rows of alphabetical and numeral keys to
enter data into the computer.
System Keys Also known as control Keys, they are used
either alone or combination with other keys
to perform certain actions. Ctrl, Windows
Logo key, Alt, Shift, Escape
Navigating Keys These keys are used for moving around in
documents or WebPages and editing text.
They include the arrow keys, Home, End,
Page Up, Page Down, Delete, and Insert
Numeric Keys The numeric keypad is handy for entering
numbers quickly.

Keyboard Keys
Space Bar:
This is the longest key on the keyboard. It is used
to insert a blank space after each word and after
punctuation marks.

Modifier Keys:
These are keys that change or modify the
functions of the character keys.
Examples; Caps lock and Shift key.

System Keys :
These are keys that either used alone or with
another key.
Examples; Control key (CTRL), Alternate key
(Alt),Escape key(Esc), Enter Key, Backspace
key, Scroll key, Tab key, Print Screen key
(Prntscr), Toggle key (Caps lock, Num lock,
