Impulse

The document provides a welcome message for students taking a Grade 9 science class on physics. It begins with reminders for the day and a short prayer asking for guidance in their studies and for healing during the pandemic. It then outlines the day's activities, including a true or false quiz on momentum, a lesson on impulse, sample problems calculating impulse, and a short quiz. The key points are that impulse is the change in momentum, impulse is the product of force over time, and force of impact depends on momentum and time of contact.

REMINDERS OF THE DAY !
Oh God Almighty, behold us
your beloved children, offering
you today our works and studies.
We ask for your guidance today
and may you enlighten our
minds as we dive into another
session of new learnings. We also
pray for this pandemic to end
soon and may the world be
healed. Grant us the courage and
show us the path to follow your
way. All these we ask in your
mighty name. Amen.

Applications of Impulse
“Riding the Punch”
When a boxer recognizes that he will be hit in
the head by his opponent, the boxer often
relaxes his neck and allows his head to move
backwards upon impact.
Installed Airbags
Airbags can lessen and prevent injuries in the
event of crash or collisions. The inflation of
airbags is initiated by the crash sensors, it
decreases the impact force by increasing the
time of contact.
To summarize our topic for today here are the key points that you
always need to remember:

• Impulse is the change in momentum. I=p.

• Impulse is the product of the force applied over a time interval
I=Ft.

• The force of impact is directly proportional to the momentum of

the body and inversely proportional to the time of contact.
