INTRODUCTION
• Motion refers to the change in the
position of an object with time.
• A graph is a visual representation
of the relation between two
variable quantities.
• To describe the motion of an
object, we can use line graphs,
which show the dependence of
one physical quantity on another
quantity.
TYPES OF
MOTION GRAPHS
I. Distance-Time Graphs
• The change of position of an
object with time can be
represented on a distance time
graph.
• In this case, time is taken along
the x-axis, while distance is taken
along the y-axis.
• There are three types of distance-
time graph.
Types of Distance-Time Graphs
• For Uniform Motion: a straight
line moving upwards
• For Non-Uniform Motion: a
curved line moving upwards.
• For An Object At Rest: a line
parallel to the x-axis, since there
is only an increase in time.
II. Velocity-Time Graphs
• The change in velocity of an
object with time can be
represented on a velocity time
graph.
• In this case, time is taken along
the x-axis, while velocity is taken
along the y-axis.
• There are six types of velocity
time graphs.
Types of Velocity-Time Graphs- I
i. For Constant Velocity: a
straight line parallel to the time
axis
ii. For Uniformly Accelerated
Motion: a straight line moving
upwards
iii. For Non-Uniformly
Accelerated Motion: a curved
line moving upwards
Types of Velocity-Time Graphs- II
iv. For Uniformly Deaccelerated
Motion: a straight line moving
downwards
v. For Non-Uniformly
Deaccelerated Motion: a curved
line moving downwards
vi. For An Object At Rest: a
straight line on the time axis
