Disconnector Switch Testing
1. Measurement of Contact Resistance
2. Measurement of Insulation Resistance
3. Operating Time Test
4. Interlocking between Isolator and earth switch
5. AC withstand Voltage Test
Isolator/Disconnector Switch
1. Measurement of Contact Resistance
IEC 62271-102, IEEE C37.35
 Purpose
i. Key purpose is to measure resistance between contacts.
ii. It will also show that alignment of isolator is perfect

 Procedure
i. Connect power cables and sensing leads at both male
and female terminals.
ii. Inject 100A current.
iii. Test set will show calculated value using Ohm law
formula.
iv. Value should be in (<80μΩ)
Isolator/Disconnector Switch
2. Measurement of IR Test
IEC 62271-102
 Purpose
i. To measure the insulation level between live part to ground
 Procedure
• Connect power cables at top of the isolator and steel structure
or ground.
• Inject 5kV voltage
• Measure resistance value at 15 sec and 60sec to calculate form
factor value.
• Value should be in GΩ and form factor more than 1.

3. Operating Time Test

4. Interlocking between Isolator and earth switch
5. AC withstand Voltage Test

IEC 60060-3
 Purpose
i. To measure the effectiveness of insulation level

 Procedure
• Connect power cable at top of the object and other cable to the ground.
• Short and ground other phases which are not under testing
• Increase voltage gradually till our required voltage, and then start time.
• Measure leakage current, there should no flashover.
• Reduce voltage slowly to zero after testing
• Before opening connections, use earthing rod for discharging current.
• After Hi-pot testing, measure IR value as well.

Test

4. Measurement of Insulation Resistance Test

5. Coil Resistance
6. Spring Charging time
7. AC Withstand Voltage test
Purpose
i. Verify C.B opening and closing time.
Testing Procedure
i. Open isolators from both ends

Circuit Diagram

Contact
Purpose
i. To verify that SF6 gas (Dew point and Purity) is as per Specification.
Procedure
i. Connect testing set with SF6 breaker.
ii. Testing set will automatically measure both dew point and purity
of SF6 gas
iii. Observe the measured values
iv. Pump back the SF6 gas sample from testing set to breaker.

Measurement of Insulation Resistance Test
Purpose
i. To measure the ohmic value of the insulation, which will show isolation level b/w Objects
Procedure
i. Open both sides isolators
ii. Connect power cables at top of the breaker and steel structure or ground.
iii. Inject voltage as per specifications, 5kV
iv. Measure resistance value at 15 sec and 60sec to calculate form factor value.
