Preposition

• A preposition is a word or group of words


used before a noun, pronoun, or noun
phrase to show direction, time, place,
location, spatial relationships, or to introduce
an object. ("in," "at," "on," "of," and "to." ).
ex. It’s always cold in December

Simple preposition

• Simple Prepositions are one-word


prepositions that indicate some relationship
between a noun/pronoun and the other words in a
sentence. (On, Over, at, under, by)

Ex.1. Matilda lost her ring at the beach.


Double Preposition

• Double prepositions are a combination of two prepositions


made into one word to make a whole new word. Some
examples of double prepositions are - into, onto, throughout,
upon, without, inside, out of, from within etc.

Ex. 1. I locked my key inside my room/


Compound Preposition

• compound preposition contains two or more prepositional


words. (According to, as to, Onto, Across, After, Beyond,
Without, Opposite to, Away from, Aside from)

Ex. This theory is wrong according to his philosophy.


Participle preposition­

• gerund forms -ing’ or -ed forms that functions


as a preposition.

ex.
Phrase Preposition

• structure consisting of a preposition and its object. Phrase


that begins with a preposition and ends in a noun,
pronoun, or noun phrase.
Ex. 1. She caught the bus on time.
Preposition of time

• A preposition of time is a preposition that allows you to discuss a


specific time period. (during, until, since, after, before, past, from…
to)

Ex.
-Her visit will extend from Monday to Thursday.
- We stayed at the students hostel during the conference.
Preposition of place

• is a preposition which is used to refer to a place


where something or someone is located. ( above,
beneath, between, next to).

ex. The hotel is situated next to the lively bustling


port.
Preposition of direction

• Prepositions of direction are used to indicate directions


and give users an idea where something is directed. for
example – across, along, behind, between,

ex.
-  The employees parked behind the store.
Spatial Relationship

• Prepositions that indicate a spatial relationship explain where one


object is in relation to another. Prepositions in this category include:
(Inside, Beside, Above, Across, Off, Within, towards)

ex.
- Come stand beside me.
- he man started walking toward the exit.
