Introduction of Olap

OLAP (online analytical processing) allows analysts, managers, and executives to gain insight into data through fast, consistent, and interactive access to transformed raw data reflecting the real dimensionality of an enterprise. It features include fast analysis, shared multidimensional information. There are different types of OLAP including ROLAP, MOLAP, and HOLAP. While it provides flexible self-service reporting and speed-of-thought analysis, it also has disadvantages like complexity to administer and requiring data marts. OLAP is applied in finance, sales, marketing, and manufacturing.
