Volleyball is a team sport in
which two teams of six
players are separated by a net.

Each team tries to score

points by grounding a ball on
the other team's court under
organized rules.
VOLLEYBALL RULES
1.Each team consist of 6 players and 6 substitutes. Players can be substituted at any
time but if they are to return can only be swapped for the player that replaced them.
2.Each team can hit the ball up to three times before the ball must be returned. The
defensive team can then try and block or return the ball again hitting it a maximum
of three times.
3.Games are played up to 25 points and must be won by 2 clear points.
4.Violations will be called for the following:
a.Stepping over the base line when serving the ball.
b.Ball hits the net and fails to get over the net (If the ball hits the net and still goes over the net
then this is perfectly legal).
c.Players are not allowed to carry, palm or run with the ball.
d.Players must not touch the net with any part of the body. If the net is said to have hit them
rather than vice-versa, then this is ok.
e.The ball cannot travel under the net.
f.Players cannot reach over the net and hit the ball.
DIFFERENT POSITIONS
IN VOLLEYBALL
Setter- The role of the setter is to orchestrate the team’s offense. They’re
in charge of delivering the ball from the passers in the back court to a
hitter in the front court.
SETTER
Outside Hitter or left side hitter- attacks out of the left side of the court
and is often seen as the go-to attacker on court. They also play an
important passing role during serve reception.
LEFT SIDE HITTER
opposite hitter - is the player who most often scores the most points in the
team. Opposite hitters don’t have the passing responsibilities. They stand
behind the passers on the rotation while libero and outside hitters pass the ball
and place themselves to the left front, right front or right back playing position.
OPPOSITE HITTER
Middle Blocker position is the player at the net in the middle of the court
between the two outside blockers. The middle blocker strives to be involved in
blocking the opponent's hitters wherever they may be on the court.
MIDDLE BLOCKER
libero -is a back row passing and defense specialist. They sub into the back court usually
for the middle blocker and their primary role is as a serve reception specialist, but they’re
also out there to dig the ball and make all sorts of defensive plays.
LIBERO
defensive specialist -typically has all the same skills as a libero, except
they do not wear a different colored jersey and can sub into the game
for any player in any position.
EQUIPMENT AND
MATERIALS
A volleyball is a ball used to play indoor
volleyball, beach volleyball, or other less
common variations of the sport.
Volleyballs are round and traditionally
consist of eighteen nearly rectangular
panels of synthetic or genuine leather,
arranged in six identical sections of three
panels each, wrapped around a bladder.
A volleyball court is 9 m × 18 m (29.5 ft ×
59.1 ft), divided into equal square halves by a
net with a width of one meter (39.4 in). The
top of the net is 2.43 m (7 ft 11 3⁄16 in) for
women's competition, varied for veterans
and junior competitions.
The volleyball court llnes include four sidelines, two endlines, two attack lines
and a centerline which outline and mark the boundaries of volleyball court
playing area.
Antenna and Side Bands- Antenna are flexible rods that are 1.8
meters long made of fiberglass, fastened at the outer edge of each side
band. Side bands are two white bands attached vertically to the net
and placed above each sideline.
Knee pads- Knee pads should be sturdy enough to protect your knees from falls,
slides and dives, but flexible enough to allow you to bend comfortably. Your
volleyball knee pads must be made of fabric that breathes and manages moisture.
Shoes- Arch and ankle support is key when choosing a volleyball shoe.
volleyball shoes, which are lightweight, allowing you to be faster on your feet, as
well as bearing good shock absorption on your toes. Volleyball shoes also provide
for better lateral movement than typical running or cross-training shoes.
HOW TO PLAY
VOLLEYBALL?
• Choose your players. Ideally, you want at least 6 players per team for a
competitive game. However, if you're playing with a group of friends, keep the
same number of players on each side.

• Determine which team will "serve" the ball first. Toss a coin or form an
agreement to find out who will begin the game.

• Serve the ball from behind the line at the back of the court. If you serve from in
front of the line it will be a point for the other team. This is known as a foot
fault. The ball has to go over the net (but it can touch), and it has to land within
the court for the serve to be good.

• Return the ball if you're on the receiving team. Thus the rally has begun! A
typical play will be bump, set, spike -- but as long as it goes over within three
hits, it's good.
• Continue hitting the ball back and forth across the net until a fault
happens. This could be because of any one of the following:
i. If the ball hits the ground on the side of the serving team, then the other team has
the opportunity to serve.
ii. If the ball hits the ground on the side of the receiving team, then the serving team
can serve again.
iii. The point is awarded to the team that did not allow the ball to hit the ground.

• Serve the ball again. The team that won the last point gets to serve the ball. If
you're rotating, rotate now.

• Continue playing until you reach a threshold. You can decide how many
points you will allow for each game.
