Art Integration Project-Cyclone

This document summarizes a student presentation on cyclones. It includes sections on defining cyclones, showing a poster depicting cyclone damage, identifying cyclone prone areas in India, describing how mathematics is used to study cyclones, listing different types and names of cyclones, and explaining the role of technology in managing cyclones. What is a Cyclone?
 Storms are associated with periods of
strong often damaging winds, heavy
flood-producing rainfall, thunder and
lightning, heavy snowfall or blizzard
conditions.

 Cyclones are caused by atmospheric

disturbances around a low-pressure area
distinguished by swift and often
disruptive air circulation.

 The word cyclone is derived from the

Greek word “Cyclos” meaning the coils
of a snake.

Poster on Cyclone
• Our team has prepared a hand-made poster depicting the
ferociousness of cyclones and the ill-effects it causes. We can see
trees and plants being uprooted, cattle being hurt by objects falling

and its effects on the, the house being destroyed as the wind carries away its
components and we can also see the area being flooded. It is a poster
that shows the real adversities of the cyclone.

Cyclone
Prone Areas
In India
• In India, most of the tropical
cyclones develop in the Bay of
Bengal.

• Hence the Eastern coast is more

prone to cyclones.

•  It includes the coastal areas of

Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh,
Odisha and West Bengal.

Mathematics in the Study of Cyclones

o The fundamental mathematics of a cyclone is its circular

formation. Not only this, but it is also astonishing the way
that hurricanes rotate.

o Do they rotate clockwise, or anticlockwise? Cyclones from

the north of the equator spin anti-clockwise and storms below
the equator spin clockwise. This is because the Earth rotates
on its axis. It ultimately highlights that Mathematics is
incorporated into absolutely everything that we see in this
world.

o We could find the speed of the cyclone and predict how far it
will travel and in what time by using the speed, distance,
time formula. This is on example to use Mathematics in the
study of cyclones by children.

Types of Cyclone

There are 4 types of Cyclone two of them are given below :

 Tropical Cyclone: The regions where the tropical cyclone occurs are over the tropical ocean.
Hurricanes and typhoons are the two types of tropical cyclone. Atlantic and Northeast Pacific are the
regions where hurricanes are found.

 Polar Cyclone: The polar cyclone is also known as the “Arctic hurricane” in the Northern
Hemisphere. This is due to their energy sources. The heat is transferred from water to air and the latent
heat is released in the form of cloud condensation.

Summary As a project for Art integration, in this presentation we have discussed the science,
technology and mathematics in the study of cyclones. We have incorporated social
studies by analyzing the cyclone prone areas in India. The poster on the effects of
cyclone is a work of art. We have collected an interesting list of names by which
cyclone is called in different languages of the world.
