Iit Gandhinagar Campus Planning

The IIT Gandhinagar campus received a five-star GRIHA LD rating, making it the first campus in India to receive this rating and setting norms for future developments. The 400-acre campus master plan guides development over the coming years with an emphasis on open spaces, infrastructure, mobility without cars, and preserving biodiversity while efficiently using resources to achieve net zero energy, water, and waste. The phased development will house up to 10,000 students across academic buildings, housing, and other facilities in a sustainable, pedestrian-friendly design harmonizing with the local climate and riverfront landscape.

other motorised transport.
• Pedestrians and cyclists have special scenic routes separate
from vehicular roads, through the campus.
• Whilevehicular access has been provided to all housing
blocks, parking at the academic blocks has been restricted
mainly to cycles.
• For internal mobility, the campus provides environment
friendly electrical vehicles for universal access and as a
means of public transport.
• The plan ensures zero discharge of waste water. Onsite
harvesting of rainwater and solar energy.
• Waste water is used for growing food and fodder plants.
