Science 4 Quarter 2 Week 3

This document provides information about terrestrial and aquatic plants. It discusses the parts of terrestrial plants like leaves, stems, roots, and some that bear flowers. Terrestrial plants grow on land in different environments. It also describes aquatic plants, noting they have adapted to living fully submerged in water. They have specialized structures like floating leaves and stems to allow growth underwater or at the surface. Students are asked to observe and compare the characteristics of terrestrial and aquatic plants.

What’s New?
Go outside OUR CLASSROOM
and observe the plants around.
Choose five plants that you find
growing outside.
Identify the parts of the plants
What’s New?
What is it?

Plants have three basic

parts, the leaves, stem and
roots. Others bear flowers
while others do not.
What is it?
Plants that grow on land are
called terrestrial plants. Some
terrestrial plants are small, others
are big. There are plants with
big trunks (woody stem) while
others have soft stem.
What is it?

There are plants that need

plenty of water to grow, while
others need very little water in
order to survive.
What is it?

Terrestrial plants grow in

different places. There are
plants that grow directly on
soil while others grow on
rocks. Other plants cling to a
fence. Some climb up a tree.
What is it?

All plants have roots, stem

and leaves. Many also have
flowers which will develop
into seeds.
Questions:
What are the common parts of
terrestrial plants?
In what way the stem of a mango
differ from the stem of a mayana?
Give three kinds of terrestrial plants
that is used as food. Give the part of
the plant that is eaten.
Whats more?
look for three plants near your house
and observe the parts of the plants.

Choose the letter of the correct answer.

1.Plant adaptations for survival in

desert climates include all of the
following EXCEPT:
a.Long deep roots
b.Thick and water-storing stems
c.Small leaves
d.Wide leaves

Choose the letter of the correct answer.

2.Terrestrial plants grow on land.

Which set of plants DOES NOT belong
to the group?
A Lilies and lotus
b. Grass and trees
c.Banana and herbal plants
d.Bamboo and coconuts

Choose the letter of the correct answer.

3. Which of the following adaptive

structures can help protect plants from
animals?

a.Thick barks and rough stems

b.Strong deep roots
c.Thorns and spines
d.Aerial roots

Choose the letter of the correct answer.

4. Which is NOT TRUE about plants?

a.They need water, air, and sunlight.
b.All have roots, stems, and leaves.
cAll plants are God’s creation.
d.They are all terrestrial

Choose the letter of the correct answer.

5. Which of the following statements is

TRUE
a.Waxy leaves of gabi protects it from being
eaten by animals.
b.Cactuses have thick stems because they
grow near rivers.
c.The roots of orchid plants get water from
the ground.
d.Wide leaves help capture more energy
from the sun.
SCIENCE 4
QUARTER 2
WEEK 3
DAY 2
Observe the different water plants
that you see in these pictures.

Describe the parts of the aquatic

plants.
Aquatic Plants
Aquatic Plants
Guide Questions:
What plants did you observe?
What are the parts of each plant
that you observed?
What are the parts that are
common among the plants?
Guide Questions:
What can you say about the
characteristics of aquatic plants that you
have observed?
What are the similarities in
characteristics between terrestrial and
aquatic plants?
What new things have you learned
today?
Whats New?
Compare and contrast aquatic plants
from terrestrial plants using the Venn
diagram below.
Guide Questions:
What body system is not
working well with the boy?
Why does the boy look like
this?
What could cause this
situation to the boy?
What is it?
Aquatic plants are plants that
have adapted to living within
aquatic environments. They are
also referred to as hydrophytes.
These plants require special
adaptations for living submerged
in water or at the water’s surface.
What is it?
Aquatic plants can only grow in
water or in soil that is permanently
saturated with water.
The leaves, stem and roots of
aquatic plants grow underwater. In
some, the leaves float on water.
Their flowers are raised above the
water surface.
What is it?
Aquatic plants have specialized
structures that allow them to live
under the water. Others have
specialized structures to make them
float on the surface of water.
Guide Questions:
What are the parts of an aquatic
plant?
In what way aquatic parts
different from terrestrial plants?
Guide Questions:
Give one example of an aquatic
plant that is found growing in
your community. Identify the
specialized structure that made
the plant adapt to aquatic
environment.
Whats More?
Draw a HAPPY Face if the
statement is CORRECT and
SAD face if it is NOT. Write
your answers in your Notebook
Whats More?
1. All plants that grow in water are
called aquatic plants.
2. The broad leaves and soft bodies
allow them to float in water.
3. Aquatic plants can also grow on
