Workplace Safety Procedure

Accidents may happen at any time and may occur in


many ways and forms. There are two basic factors of
workplace accidents, first is ignorance and the other
is carelessness. The workers must do things right.
Workplace safety procedures are standardized
process that outline how to conduct tasks with
minimal risk to people, materials and work
environments. The procedure include work-related
tasks that address safety concerns, safety
equipment, and work precautions.
Safety in the Kitchen
Common risks in the kitchen are; fire, electrical issues, burns,
slipping, improper handling of kitchen equipment, food
poisoning, and improper storage.

1.Cuts- do not catch the falling knives.


• Carry the knife with the tip pointing downward, and the cutting edge
is away from the body.
• Never touch knife blades especially when it is newly sharpened.
• Pick up the knife by the handle only.

2.Burns-
• Always assume the pots and pan are hot.
• Use a dry potholder in handling hot pan. Wet cloths conduct heat
easily.
• Clean the area regularly to avoid grease scattered around the cooking
area.
• Ensure that the fire extinguisher is visible where it can be easily seen.
• Train employees to use them.
• Wear protective Equipment.
3. Slips and Falls- Keep the floor clean and dry
• Wipe any spilled liquid immediately and pick up any objects.
• Walk or do not run or slide on the floor.
• Post a warning sign around spills or wet floor.
4. Sprains and strains-
• Ask help if necessary to lift heavy objects
• Use ladder in reaching items or on higher shelves
• Keep objects close to the body.
• Take a short break when doing a repetitive task.
5. Lock outs-
• Train the employees to operate the machine. Never allows
employees to use the machine if not been trained to use.
• Turn off electrical switches and pull the plug off the electrical
outlet before cleaning or adjusting any part of the machine.
6.Dishwashing Safety-
• Do not overload trays or force tray into the machine.
• Do not leave the knife under soapy water in a washbasin.
• Empty and sort cutlery bins before they are full.
Safety for Room Attendant

Wear basic PPE such as closed-toe shoes and safety


glasses while performing housekeeping. Determine
what type of PPE to wear based on the potential
risks. Regularly inspect, clean and fix tools. Remove
any damaged tools from the work area.
Housekeepers Responsibilities towards safety are;
1. Prepare a safety manual that is read and understood at
the time of induction of new employees.
2. Paste safety rules on walls at strategic points in the work
area.
3. Reinforce safety rules in daily briefing's.
4. Organize continuous safety training. Involve experts like
the equipment manufacturers.
5. Have a preventive maintenance programmed for all
equipment
6. Bed corner to be covered
7. Non smoking zone signage
8. Smoke detectors indicator light to blink at all the times
Service Staff Safety

Safety services means the actions, assistance


provided by safety service providers to
manage the identified present danger safety
threats or impending danger safety threats to
a child.
• Provides servers with smaller
containers for table clean up to
prevent carrying excessive weight.
• Provide carts with large wheels to
bring food and dirty dishes to
avoid the servers carrying heavy
loads and to prevent strains and
sprain injuries.
• Divide the large orders when
serving
• Move around table to help guest
to reduce the need for reaching.
• Learn to use both hands when
carrying a heavy tray to allow the
muscles of each arm to rest.
• Move the glass closer to the server
when filling up the liquid.
Bar Staff Safety
Work environment such as restaurants, hotels,
bars where food and beverage are served, present
a unique set of hazard . The main health and
safety issues.

• To prevent the risk of injury, wear


shoes with enough cushioning to
relieve the stress of the knees and
back when standing for long hours
• Alternate the foot on the rail from
time to time to reduce stress on the
back.
• Use a step tool when reaching items
on high shelves.
• Be mindful of the posture
depending on the type of work and
position of the body.
Casino Dealer Safety

There are unique occupational health


issues in the casino industry. The most
common are from cancers resulting from
exposure to second hand tobacco smoke

•Second hand smoke.


•Noise-induced hearing loss.
•Metal dust from coin counting.
•Shift work.
•Injuries.
•Psychosocial hazards
Front Desk Staff Safety
Although the role of the Front office is the responsibility of
every guest, yet Front desk staff plays an important roles as
they have the opportunity to observe all persons entering or
departing the premises. The main security function of the
Front office is protecting the guest and property.
• Maintain a good posture when at work.
• Make sure that the monitor is at the eye
level and the keyboard is at the elbow
level.
• Ask for assistance if required to move
heavy luggage.
• Adjust work station if necessary to reach
frequently used items.
• Wear shoes with enough cushioning to
help reduce stress on the back when
standing for long hours.
Bell Staff Safety

Bell staff typically consists of bellhops, doormen and


valet parking attendants, all of which are supervised by
a bell captain. In a large hotel, these positions will be
strictly defined, while in a smaller hotel, the bell staff may
assist in any combination of these welcome and farewell
activities.
• Use a cart or dolly to lift heavy items
• Pushcarts and avoid pulling. Push your hands
below the shoulder when pushing
• Check regularly if the tires and wheels are in good
condition to decrease the amount of force in
pushing the cart.
• Take a short break to rest the muscles.
• Use different muscle (alternating the left and right
hands to handling the luggage).
Handling Luggage
• Alternate the left and right hands in carrying
the luggage.
• Pause a break when needed.
• Ask a buddy for help when needed.
• Lift heavy items using a dolly.
• Push instead of pulling the cart.
• Report faulty carts immediately to the
supervisor and
• Wear comfortable with non-slip soled and
cushioning relieve stress on the knees and
back.
