Data Flow Diagram

The document provides an introduction to data flow diagrams (DFDs). It discusses how DFDs originated in the 1970s as a way to visually represent data flows through processes. The document outlines the key components of a DFD, including processes, data stores, data flows, and stakeholders. It also provides instructions on how to create a first-level DFD, such as identifying the relevant processes, data stores, stakeholders, and connections between them. Finally, it lists the team members that created the document.

WHAT ARE DATA FLOW DIAGRAMS?

• A data-flow diagram is a way of representing a flow of
data through a process

• It helps to identify a specific process, data stores, and

stakeholders related to it.
04

HOW IT STARTED

• Originated with Chris Gane and Trish Sarson in 1979, who

popularized the technique for structured analysis and design.

• Which used circles instead of rounded rectangles to denote

processes and which became popular with many systems analysts.

USE OF DATA FLOW DIAGRAMS

• A data flow diagram shows the way information flows through a

process or system.

• It includes data inputs and outputs, data stores, and the various
subprocesses the data moves through

• It helps us to understand the functioning and the limits of a system.

• It is a graphical representation which is very easy to understand as it

helps visualize contents.

• Data Flow Diagram represent detailed and well explained diagram

of system components.
