SOURCES OF AUTHORITY
STANDARDS OF MORALITY.
• What is internal and external sources?
- Internal ethical issues mainly involve the stakeholders of a
company, employees and the management.
- External issues focus more on the environment. It can be the
company and it’s suppliers, community it operates in and
government agencies.
Sources of Authority
• LAW - is a set of rules that are created and are enforceable by social or
governmental institutions to regulate behavior, with it’s precise definition
a matter of longstanding debate. it has been variously described as a
science and as the art of justice.
• RELIGION- human beings relation to that which they regard as holy,
sacred, absolute, spiritual, devine,or worthy of especial reverence. It is
also commonly regarded as consisting of the way people deal with
ultimate concerns about their lives and their fate after death.
• CULTURE -is an umbrella term which encompasses the social
behavior, institution, and norms found in human societies as well as
the knowledge, beliefs ,arts, laws ,customs, capabilities, and habits of
the individuals in these groups. Culture is often originated from or
attributed to a specific region or location.
SENSES OF THE SELF
• SUBJECTIVISM- is a label used to denote the philosophical tenet
that “our own mental activity is the only unquestionable fact of our
experience.” While Thomas Hobbes was an early proponent of
subjectivism, The success of this position is historically attributed to
Descartes and his methodic doubt.
• PSYCHOLOGICAL EGOISM- suggests that all behaviors are
motivated by self-internet. In other words, it suggests that every
action or behavior or decision of every person is motivated by self
interest. It also suggests that every action must be motivated by self
interest.
• ETHICAL EGOISM –is the normative position that moral agents ought to act
in their own self-interest. it differs from psychological egoism, which claims that
people can only act in their self- interest.
