• The company was incorporated on 29 December 1945, in Mumbai by Mohammed Premji as ‘Western India
Vegetable Products Limited,’ later abbreviated to ‘Wipro’.
• It was initially set up as manufacturer of vegetable and refined oils in Mumbai, under the trade names of Kisan,
Sunflower and camel.
• Wipro is one of the India’s largest publicly traded companies and seventh largest IT services firm in the world.
• To focus on core IT business, it demerged its non-IT business into a sperate company named Wipro Enterprises
Limited with effect from 31 march 2013.

HISTORY :
• The company was incorporated on December 29, 1945, in Mumbai by Mohamed Hasham
Premji as Western India Vegetables Products Limited, later abbreviated to Wipro.
• It was initially set up as a manufacturer of vegetable, ghee, vanaspati and refined oils in
Amalner, Jalgaon, Maharashtra, under the trade names of Kisan, Sunflower and Camel.
• In 1996, after Mohamed Premji’s death, his son Azim Premji returned home from Stanford
University and took over Wipro as its Chairman at the age of 21.
• As of December 2014, the company has 1,54,297 employees servicing over 900 large
enterprise.
• Fortune 1000 corporations with a presence in 61 countries.
• On 31 January 2015, its market capitalization was approximately 1.63 trillion ($26.3 billion)
• In February 2002, Wipro became the first software technology and services company in India
to be certified for ISO 14001 certification.

Till today Wipro had been known for being very process
oriented with a focus on quality and cost savings. Wipro
long term strategy should be to create a brand image and be
known for innovation. Wipro should invest in R&D and
Market research, so that it is able to innovate new solutions
for clients to cut costs or reduce time to market or improve
reliability.
